Ames on the Half Shell starts tonight and runs through August 1

As mentioned in Examiner's weekend preview, Burnin' Sensations will kick off the Ames on the Half Shell summer concert series tonight. The series will run through August 1 and will feature local bands performing at the Durham Bandshell Park every Friday night except July 4. Each Ames on the Half Shell will also have a different food vendor and featured beer, and there will be a number of wines, beers, and hard ciders available for purchase very week. (Tonight's food vendor and featured beer are Vesuvius Wood Fired Pizza and Goose Island's Honker's Ale.) The music runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and admission is just $4. While tonight's event is 21-and-up, there is a special kid-friendly area where kids can go, accompanied by an adult, to see "The Balloon Lady", Becca Wemhoff and drink free root beer from Olde Main Brewing Company & Restaurant. Tonight there will also be a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the season. Here is a look at the 2014 Ames on the Half Shell schedule:
