If Obama thought he could sell European style socialism to Americans, a February 21, 2010 Rasmussen Report should be a wake up call for him and the Democrats. Only 22% of the nation's voters strongly approve of how he is performing his role as President.
According to Rasmussen, the low approval rating comes as Obama is focusing on health care legislation. The President just doesn't seem to get it, even though only 39% of voters nation wide favor it.
Back in October 18, 2009, Michael Barone wrote in the Washington Examiner, Obama's policies imitating European nations of government spending, health care and carbon emissions was being rejected. That was when Obama hailed European lawmakers "dynamic union" at a meeting in Strashbourg instead of talking about how dynamic Americans have been economically, culturally, politically, and militarily.
As far back as October, Rasmussen Reports were showing that in spite of the recession, 58 to 35 percent wanted to keep the budget deficit down and 53 to 33 percent opposed more government regulation of the financial sector.
At the same time, Gallop was reporting that 30 percent of Americans said their views had become more conservative while only 18% said they had become more liberal.
In February 2010, Rasmussen Reports showed that only 39% of voters favor Obama and the Democrats health care plan while 58% are opposed. It is obvious that his European-style of socialism is being rejected by voters.
In his book, In Search of Self-Government, Scott Rasmussen notes that while designing the American system of government, James Madison
"recognized something that just about everybody in Washington tries to forget. The government does not run the country. It is one institution among many that makes a self-governing work."
Will Obama pay any attention to the American voters rejecting having European-style socialism forced down their throats? If not, he may turn out to be a one-term president, becoming a lame duck in the third years of his presidency.

I agree Americans do not want economic socialism/fascism!
While there may be disputes between true liberals and conservatives and libertarians, the enemy is progressives, fascists, and socialists. Or to simplify, the fight is individualism vs statism.
Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts. Socialism p. 460 Ludwig von Mises (1922)
progressives/socialists/fascists hijacked the term "liberalism". To be honest for those who dont know, Conservatives are more classically liberal today than modern so called "liberals"...Odd Huh?
Got something to say?
