Back in the late 50’s and early 60’s, there was a western that aired weekly on CBS; “ Have Gun Will Travel,” Starring Richard Boone as Paladin. Richard Boone was a West Point educated gentleman with a taste for fine wines and foods. He was based at the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco, he was a man for hire with a gun and he was a gunfighter.
Americans are buying guns for protection has increased in the last few months. With shootings that have taken place at universities, private and public places, elementary schools and even on the streets of every city in the country, the death toll is mounting. Americans are taking training on how to use guns and how to protect themselves and their families.
Paladin would do anything for those in serious need. He read the newspapers from across the country and sometimes sent his calling card to those he felt might use his service as gunfighter, bodyguard or anything else that his skills could accommodate.
If everyone is buying guns in America and walking the streets with guns. How will we be able to tell the good guys from the bad guys? Even a good apple will go bad if the conditions are not favorable and appropriate to the conditions for growth and development. Are security guards, the present day, Paladin? They get paid for their services.
We are one of the richest, free countries, and civilized societies in the world. As citizens we are not safe in our homes, the streets and even in our neighborhoods. We are not safe from the evil that larks in the mind and hearts of man.
Gun control and gun violence in America
There are two issues on the menu that the president, citizens, gun advocates, and congress must manage. Everyone must entertain the conversation of gun control and gun violence, both take center stage. Limiting the control of guns, will not deter gun violence in America. We live in a society that welcomes violence, enjoy violence, the excitement of violence, and money that is associated with violence. So we must learn to accept and live with the consequences that are associated with guns and violence. Guns are the weapon of choice for the good, bad and the ugly in American society.
Gun violence is at a steady rise and will continue to rise. The American society has created and manufactured over the years many guns that should not be street legal, but to the appeal of gun owners, advocates and politicians, they are on the streets and in the hands of the wrong people. Our passion and constitutional rights blinds us from doing the right thing, that will make America a safer place to live for generations to come.
‘I have a very strict gun control policy: if there’s a gun around, I want to be in control of it. -Clint Eastwood
