The Americana Music Festival and Conference, running Sep. 17-21 in venues throughout Nashville, made three big announcements today, Aug. 15. The first was the announcements that festival wristbands have gone on sale to the public. The second was the addition of more than 20 artists to the lineup, which now brings the Americana Showcase total to over 175 bands. The third was the release of the daily schedule of Americana Showcase performances.
For those who want to attend Americanafest but can't afford the full conference experience or just want the nighttime showcases, the $50 Americana Showcase wristbands give you access to all of the nighttime venues such as Mercy Lounge, 3rd and Lindsley, and Station Inn. With the nighttime venue list expanding this year to include new venues like City Winery and Listening Room Cafe, the $50 wristband price is a major bargain. For fans who also want to attend the huge Riverfront Park show on Saturday featuring The Avett Brothers, they are also offering a $99 combo ticket that includes a festival wristband and a ticket to the Riverfront Park show. Wristbands and wristband/Avett Brothers combo tickets can be purchased at the Mercy Lounge's website.
With an already jam packed lineup, it's hard to see where Americanafest had room to put any more artists, but the new venues added more room and over 20 more artists were added. Included in the lineup additions are some heavy hitters in the Americana music scene such as Holly Williams, Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars, and BR5-49, as well as rising acts like Michaela Anne and Sharde Thomas & the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band.
The third big announcement was the daily schedule of Americana Showcase performances, sure to give any music fan a conflict headache. One interesting revelation on the schedule was the widely expected but not officially announced return of The Bluegrass Situation to Americanafest. Last year's show at One Cannery Row was the highlight of the weekend for many people. This year Ed Helms and friends will take their Late Night Windup to Nashville's bluegrass hub, The Station Inn, for a Wednesday night jam session that is sure to feature a ton of guest stars.
Another is a Thursday nights themed showcase of Mississippi-based artists at 3rd and Lindsley. Performers include Paul Thorn, Luther Dickinson, Marty Stuart, Sharde Thomas, and hosted by Americanafest fan favorite Webb Wilder, who will also perform. You can find the full schedule of Americana Showcases here.
