American Wine author Robinson to speak at 92YTribeca

Jancis Robinson, co-author of the new book "American Wine: The Ultimate Companion to the Wines and Wineries of the United States," brings her speaking tour to Manhattan on Wednesday, March 20.

Robinson, who co-wrote the coffee table compendium with Linda Murphy, will sit in conversation with wine writer / author Michael Steinberger at the 92YTribeca Screening Room at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $25. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a wine tasting reception following the discussion. Books are available for purchase and signing at the reception.

The book—a companion to "The World Atlas of Wine" (also by Robinson)—is billed as "the first comprehensive and authoritative reference on the wines, wineries and winemakers of America."

"I am so conscious of how important wine is to Americans today," Robinson writes at her website. In fact, annual wine consumption in the U.S. passed beer consumption in 2010.

"Wine is now made in every state - far, far beyond the borders of California, Oregon and Washington." Robinson credits Murphy with the actual writing of the book. "It was an ideal project for our West Coast correspondant…I helped shape the book, edited lightly, put my oar in re some of the detail…"

Jancis Robinson, "American Wine," takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 at 92YTribeca, 200 Hudson Street. Admission is $25. For more information, visit 92Y.org
