The Metro Detroit area is home to the largest independent sewing expo in the United States. What a great way to celebrate National Sewing Month. The 2014 American Sewing Expo takes place this year on September 26 - 28, 2014 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. 'We are bringing in fashion and costume designers, couture specialists, corset makers and teaching professionals for beginner to expert sewing experiences that include live challenges, seminars, workshops, contests, demonstrations, shopping and sew much fun,' said Janet Pray, show producer. 'Ideas for sewing, fashion and quilting will be found in the hands-on projects, instruction and crafter do-it-yourself programs that are featured at the fashion shows, classes and displays.'
The contestants for Passion for Fashion and winners of the Fashion Design in Half Scale and Push the Envelope-Pocket Pizzazz Exhibits have already been chosen this year, but there is still time to get in on the action. Entries for Innovation Generation, sewers ages eight to eighteen, need to be postmarked by September 8, 2014. Anyone can win the Dream Sewing Room contest, all attendees will have the opportunity to enter on September 28. New this year is the Cosplay Costume Contest, for anyone who loves making costumes. Fill out the entry form and bring it and your costume to the Expo on Sunday to participate.
The show is a great way to learn about new products and try out sewing machines and accessories. Says Pray, 'Show visitors can test drive sewing machines, see a fashion show, do some shopping or watch a demo to get creative tips, discover fresh possibilities and be inspired for new projects. So many possibilities to learn new crafts, brush up on techniques and find out how the experts do it at this year's show.'
