The rash of drownings at Atlanta area lakes and polls this summer has been shocking.
With the Fourth of July weekend upon us, it's now crucial that we make sure everyone is safe in the water.
With the weather getting unbearably hot, there is nothing more refreshing and cooling than spending an afternoon or a weekend hanging out at one of the great lakes in the Metro Atlanta area or at a neighborhood pool.
The American Red Cross has recognized this epidemic and has taken action.
One the surface, the app promotes water safety. Water safety is not only important for children, but this app is also great for parents, guardians and caregivers that might be supervising young ones at pools this summer.
Now iPhone, Android and Kindle Fire users can see how their young swimmers progress through Red Cross swim lessons and one can see if they are adding the necessary skills to become a stronger swimmer.
Per the American Red Cross, here are the features of the Red Cross Swim App:
· Progress tracker for goals achieved in swimming lessons
· Stroke videos and performance charts to help with proper techniques
· “Help your Child Progress” activities that reinforce what is covered in lessons
· Water safety and drowning prevention information for parents on a variety of aquatic environments
When a parent starts using the app, they can enter a profile for each child to track progress. Along the way, achievements and badges can be earned which makes it for for all.
This app has an educational component, a social media component and enough content and information to help prepare non swimmers for a dip in the water. It's isn't a substitute for practice or actually taking swimming lessons, but it's a good companion.
The Swim app can be downloaded for free in the Apple App Store, Google Play Store for Android or Amazon Kindle Store.
