A few of the U.S. women’s hockey players were at the right place at the right time to meet a special guest on Wednesday. The Russian President Vladimir Putin while he toured the Olympic athlete’s village in Sochi, Russia. The chance meeting was captured on camera when Kelli Stack and teammate Brianna Decker were able to say hello. According to Cleveland on Thursday, the Russian President is a big hockey fan who met several American players.

The Russian President was touring the athlete areas of the 2014 Sochi Olympics when he came up on the hockey players by chance. The meeting was apparently unscheduled and it had everything to do with the hockey team members being available as Vladimir Putin just happened to stroll by the area.

After much concern about the Winter Games and security, Vladimir Putin is doing what he can to show that Sochi is safe and ready for the Olympics. Showing up and meeting athletes, even those from America, offers a great photo opportunity and reminds everyone that the location appears safe enough even for a president!

So what does Kelli Stack and teammate Brianna Decker think of the meeting? The two athletes were all smiles and being this wasn't about politics, the ladies seemed to appreciate the experience of meeting such a big political figure. Of course it is one story that can be shared with friends for years to come.
