American Music Awards: Wardrobe malfunctions, outrage and controversy

The 2009 American Music Awards not only attracted over 14 million viewers, it gave way to a plethora of gossip and memories this year. Since there was an equal amount of shocking and controversial moments ratio to the historical and pleasant, I've broken up the article into two pieces; one for each side. Check out the American Music Awards: Gaga on fire, Swift dominates and Jackson honored.

Poor Kate Hudson, glowing and excited, had a near-wardrobe malfunction when she leaned over too far over the microphone in a low-cut metallic dress while introducing the Black Eyed Peas. She grabbed the top of her dress just in time, grinning sheepishly at the crowd while some laughs scattered among it. There was also a problem with Jennifer Lopez falling over during her performance, but it was edited out for the West coast airing of the awards show.

A stunning performance (not sure if that's in a good way) by American Idol-runner up Adam Lambert has made everyone in the media and industry flustered and angry. Everyone but Adam Lambert, that is. During his live performance, Lambert fondled men and women onstage with an intense, um, in-bad-taste attempt at a Michael Jackson crotch-grab.  May I just say, if this had been at a superbowl, it would have been deemed EXTREMELY inappropriate, but the reaction over this is creeping much more slowly. To add insult to injury, the performance wasn't even very coordinated and he spent most of his time shrieking the lyrics rather then singing them.

As a result, Lambert's appearance on "The Today Show" was canceled after 1,500 complaints about the T.V. performance. Lambert scoffed back with, "I'm not a babysitter, I'm a performer. The spirit of rock and roll is alive and well."

you can find the video of J-Lo falling on youtube... I have to argue that she's lip-syncing too but that's just me.

As a 63 year old grandmother, I still think Adam is a talented performer. He has that special quality needed to be a performer. I was surprised that the censors let the crotch shot thru. The performance wasn't the greatest; it was clearly set up for shock value. The song was mediocre and had an "out-of-context" feel, as if it were a show song from a Broadway show like Cabaret. But that's entertainment! Adam didn't have all the artistic control. The handlers and producers made the decisions. In a way he was set up for publicity purposes. It wasn't any more sensual than the others and far less raunchy than some of Madonna's work two decades ago. Hope he will be sure to focus on the quality of his voice and of the songs more than the shock value. He needs to keep artistic control. I support him and am still a fan. I agree there is a double standard being applied. Enjoy him.

I am a 63 year old Grandmother also and I was going to purchase Adam Lambert's new CD. I will not now. His sexual pranks on the American Music Awards show was disgusting. I am sorry for the families with children who were watching that wretched show. Janet Jackson's crotch grabbing was bad enough, but Adam's shrieky voiced porno performance went over the edge. I understand now why he was NOT the American Idol. I thought then that the voters were wrong. I should have realized that God is always in control.

    wrong.

Thank goodness I already listened to nearly all the songs of the very entertaining CD streaming on myspace BEFORE I saw Adam's vocally dissapointing performance at the AMA's event... If I did not, I would have done the same as 63 year old grandmother Susan (who posted her opinion on 25 Nov 09). I bought Adam's CD about 2 weeks ago at a mall in Jakarta (Indonesia) and noticed that the song "For Your Entertainment" is actually one of the worst songs of the album... The songs "Strut", "A loaded smile", "Sleepwalker, "Fever".. are much much better... Sorry,...
