The American K-12 education quality crisis is not new. What is new is the acceptance and tolerance of the mediocre performance compared with their peers in other world nations.
The most recent PISA results show the 15 year old American students lag behind their peers in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Developments countries. The USA was ranked 26 in mathematics, 21 in Science and 17 in reading.
The performance is worse than the 2009 performance where the USA 15 year old American students were ranked 25 in mathematics, 17 in Science and 14 in reading.
The future of the USA is certainly threatened. The competition from countries that the USA ignored in the past has increased. Many of them have narrowed the scientific and technological gaps significantly.
Continuing to believe the future of the USA is not threatened because of the advantages the USA has is a serious problem. The USA is facing significant competition from countries like China and India.
