'American Idol:' was 'Pants on the Ground' a rip-off?

Will Larry Platt soon be "lookin' like a fool?"
Will Larry Platt soon be "lookin' like a fool?"

We officially now have a "Pants on the Ground" controversy. According to new reports, it turns out that General Larry Platt wasn't the first guy to sing an anthem about people wearing their "hat turned sideways" and "lookin' like a fool." As a matter of fact, the Detroit-area Green Brothers did the exact same thing over ten years ago.

If you listen to the song below, you'll notice that there are quite a few similarities between the two numbers. It's possible that it could just be coincidental, though; enough people wear their pants on the ground to inspire more than one musical number these days.

Even if the song was a rip-off, the Green Brothers seem to have no ill will towards Platt, who made the song famous at the "American Idol" auditions in Atlanta. They told My Fox Detroit that they wish the former civil rights activists the best, but that they also want the world to hear their rendition.

So what do you think: was "Pants on the Ground" a rip-off? Check out the video below and let me know your thoughts with a comment.
