'American Idol' top 13 recap: Sam Woolf covers Matchbox 20's 'Unwell'

A frontrunner on "American Idol" as the top 13 sang on Feb. 26, Sam Woolf covered Matchbox 20's anthem called "Unwell." The teen was rocking his guitar as he sang this iconic tune that was well received by the audience in Los Angeles as well as the fans tuning in at home on TV.

Cue the screaming girls as Sam Woolf stepped forward to listen to his critics take aim.

Harry Connick, Jr., always the most technical arbiter, wanted this "American Idol" contender to mess up the vocals a bit. Harry wanted a grittier sound but he still considered this effort to be a good one.

Meanwhile, Keith Urban wanted the high school senior, who obviously has chops, to pick up the tempo a bit. But again, the country superstar enjoyed Sam's offering, praising him for "holding the center."

As for Jennifer Lopez?

As much as the only female "American Idol" judge thinks Sam Woolf is "adorable," she wanted him to get a little looser with "Unwell." She likened this singer to a quiet storm.

And so, on "American Idol" for the top 13, Sam Woolf covered a Matchbook 20 classic while also admitting he is afraid of spiders. Make of that what you will.
