'American Idol:' the top 12 will take on the Rolling Stones

The "American Idol" top 12 will officially get some "Satisfaction." According to a new story by Entertainment Weekly, the remaining contestants following Thursday night's elimination episode will have the opportunity to perform a song by one of the most popular bands of all time: the Rolling Stones.

For both "Idol" and the Stones, this news seems like a home run. The band's extensive catalog will give the performers (who will likely include Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus, and Michael Lynche) an opportunity to tackle a variety of songs. Will somebody sing a better version of "Wild Horses" than Susan Boyle? We will have an opportunity to find out very soon.

In the past, "Idol" has tackled songs by everyone from Elvis Presly to Michael Jackson. They also typically bring on celebrity mentors in the later rounds -- Simon Cowell has already said he weould like to see Lady Gaga on board, but no one has been actually announced as of yet.

What do you think about this news, and is there any specific song you want to see the contestants take on? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more "American Idol" news.
