‘American Idol’ season 12 premiere: Carey and Minaj already fighting

Wednesday, Jan. 16 marked the return of ‘American Idol.’ Season 12 kicked off with auditions in New York City. The previous Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj drama reports have most certainly been accurate, as it was already clear just on the first round of auditions how much the two new judges cannot stand one another. It looks like it is especially going to be a long season for Keith Urban and Randy Jackson who are caught in the middle of the disagreeable divas.

When Carey entered the set, she slammed the hat that Minaj was wearing before taking her seat. Minaj later got back at Carey when she was talking about her hit, “All I Want for Christmas.”
Their dislike for one another was so obvious that even contestants had to have noticed as they auditioned for a spot on the show. During some of the auditions, the two women seemed to make a competition amongst each other. There was already a great deal of eye rolling, calling each other out, and undeniable frustration.

Aside from the feuding, Carey and Minaj did share one thing in common: They agreed that some of the contestants should land a spot on the show. Oh yea, that’s right. Isn’t that what ‘American Idol’ is supposed to be about?

Tenna Torres was one of the standouts from these rounds. Even though she is a diehard Mariah fan who attended her camp, Minaj along with the others agreed that they were impressed by her.

Christina “Isabelle” also wowed the judges with not just her voice, but also with her story. The talented blonde spoke about her weight loss, and believing in herself. Combining inspiration with vocal talent, this girl may very well end up as a fan favorite this season.

Speaking of inspiration, Angela Miller, who has hearing loss in both ears, sang like someone that can hear perfectly. In fact, she was so incredible, that Jackson said she was “definitely one of the best.”

As always though, there were some ‘American Idol’ hopefuls who wowed the judges…..in a bad way. If there weren’t any laughable auditions, the show just wouldn’t be the same.

At the conclusion of the first two days of auditions, 41 tickets to Hollywood were given.

Auditions continue tonight, Thurs, Jan. 17 on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.

Will you be watching tonight? What did you think of the premiere? Any favorites so far?
