American Idol: Season 11: Auditions #5 - Galveston recap

The first contestant of the day, Phong Vu, enjoyed all of his time on camera and wanted to make sure he looked good. He even burst into tears thinking about what it would be like to become the next American Idol. He sang a very passionate version of "Unbreak My Heart," by Toni Braxton. The judges appreciated Phong's passion, but they just couldn't pass him through to Hollywood.

Skylar Lane, from Brandon, Mississippi sang "Hell on Heels," by Pistol Annies. The judges didn't need to listen to much before they each voted yes. Skylar asked Steven if her friend could come in and give him a hug, which he allowed.

The 21-year-old Baylie Brown auditioned in season six and made it to the group rounds in Hollywood, but forgot her lyrics and was sent home. This time around, she sang "Bed of Roses" and received a yes from all three judges.

Kristine Osorio, a 28-year-old from Amarillo, Texas, is a mother of two young girls. Again, the judges heard enough pretty quickly and gave her a golden ticket to Hollywood.

The judges experienced some disagreements, with Jennifer saying yes to multiple people and Randy and Steven saying no. Then, when she said no, the guys said yes. She was frustrated and felt as though she was in the Twilight Zone, asking others on the set if they agreed with her.

Alejandro Cazares, a 26-year-old cell phone repairman from Houston, Texas was up next. Jennifer said his voice wasn't good enough for American Idol, Randy said his voice was terrible, and the judges all voted no as Alejandro dropped to his knees and begged to stay until security directed him out.

Cortez Shaw sang his own version of Adele's "Someone Like You." Randy asked to hear another song, but the judges all liked him and put him through to Hollywood.

After a couple of terrible auditions, Ramiro Garcia was the last contestant of the day to audition. He shared that he was born without ears. Through surgeries that started at the age of four, it was discovered that he would be able to hear. The judges took a leap of faith, and Ramiro received a yes from all three.

Next week, the show heads off to Portland, Oregon for auditions. Will you be watching? Who are some of your favorite/least favorite contestants so far? Leave a comment below!
