American Idol's Top 24 chosen; Three talented Nashville singers make the cut

American Idol, Season 10 got down to business after the typical nonsense of weeks of audition clips as host Ryan Seacrest and the show's only original judge, Randy Jackson joined newbies Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler to sit in judgement in Vegas as they narrowed the thousands of hopefuls down to a more manageable Top 24

With two-dozen wannabes chosen, Tennessee is well represented with three Nashvillians taking their place among the talented twenty four. California takes top honors with the six hopefuls in the Top 24, the most from any state. Then it's New York, with four contestants representing the Big Apple. Tying Tennessee, with three singers of their own, is Louisiana.

Of the Music City hopefuls, Ashthon Jones of nearby Goodlettsville basically secured her spot during Hollywood Week's solo performance when she belted out the Dreamgirls show-stopper, And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going, a brave move, considering former AI superstar Jennifer Hudson snagged a Grammy for her Dreamgirls role, thanks largely to her performance of this song. Ashthon's gamble paid off as she nailed the song and joined the ranks of this year's Top 24.

The other two Music City residents who landed in the Top 24 joined forces on Wednesday night's show as Paul McDonald and Kendra Chantelle performed Blackbird during an all-Beatles round. Together, the duo may like two-thirds of Lady Antebellum, but their vocal styles proved to be quite unique. Each of the judges praised them for their vocal control and tone.

Despite the praise, Idol initially teased audience members by only revealing that  Paul had made it through on Wednesday's show, leaving Kendra's fate hanging in the balance until the following night. Building on thewill-she? or won't-she? anticipation, Kendra's destiny wasn't announced until very late in the show Thursday, but she too made it into theTop 24.
