American Idol's music director, Rickey Minor, took a select group of youth artists under his wing recently to spend a day in the life of the professional world of AI live in Hollywood at the band's official rehearsal set. The youth musicians arrived early morning entering through the main lot of the studio's security gates where they were escorted to the AI rehearsal space for a day of hands on saturation and insight into the daily activities of the business of producing the popular Fox talent show, American Idol.

The group of aspiring youth musical talent received the experience of a lifetime as they were brought into AI's production world complete with a business of music intensive as well as individual mentorship sessions with the all star members of American Idol's musical band. The day topped off with a group mentorship session where they sat in the round to hear about the business of music presented by Minor on the studio lot.Minor shared about his view on what it takes to be a successful musician in today’s entertainment market along with excerpts about his own experiences working with some of the top stars in the music industry including Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, and Beyoncé.

The AI studio visit was offered by Minor to encourage these particular youth musicians as a result of their academic achievements as recent scholarship recipients of the Roderick D. Jones Foundation.
