“American idol” alum Danny Gokey is a new daddy. He and his wife Leyicet welcomed a new baby boy on Sunday as confirmed by People on Jan. 21. The couple named their bundle of joy Daniel Emanuel Gokey and the new parents couldn't be happier.
Baby Daniel arrived exactly on his due date, Jan. 20, at 9:52 p.m. ET and weighed in at 8 lbs. 11 oz. Gokey told People, “Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I’m ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with.” The season eight third place finalist also took to his Twitter to confirm his joy on having his first child. He tweeted, “Its Official, I'm a daddy!!! :).”
The 32-year-old is also happy that he has a flexible schedule to be able to spend quality time with his family. He says, “I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!” Gokey married Leyicet last year on Jan. 29, and announced their pregnancy six months later. This is Gokey’s second marriage. His first wife, Sophia, died in 2008 before he took to the idol stage to follow his dream of becoming a singer.
Jennifer Hudson, Brooke White and Jason Castro are just a few of the“American Idol” contestants that have become first time parents since they graced the stage on the reality show. Danny Gokey has now happily joined that list. Season eight winner Kris Allen just recently announced that he and his wife are expecting a baby soon. The list of idol babies just keeps getting longer by the minute.
