The "American Idol" season nine Top 8 boys performed live Wednesday, March 11, 2010. The eight singers were vying for the six male spots in the Top 12, which will be revealed on tonight's live results show.
It is hard to talk about any bad performances on Wednesday, not because there weren't any, but because they were all overshadowed by Michael Lynche's performance. His performance was so unbelievable, so amazing and so worthy of winning this competition that Kara was completely in tears by the time Michael finished singing. It was a performance worth watching over and over and over again, and there is no way Michael will be going home tonight.
The performances
Lee DeWyze - "Fireflies," Owl City
- Simon - Nothing to rave about with the performance; Thought he was better than that version of the song
- Kara - Lee looked really confident; Thought he actually made the song a better song; Not his best moment but definitely solid
- Ellen - Liked the rock aspect he added to it
- Randy - Strange song choice; Made it work; Loved that he made it his own
Alex Lambert - "Trouble," Ray LaMontagne
- Simon - Needs to let go and loosen up
- Kara - Believes he is standing in his own way when it comes to winning because he just isn't being himself or letting go
- Ellen - Getting better every week; Need a little more confidence but loves his vulnerability
- Randy - Good song choice; Liked it but not wowed
Tim Urban - "Hallelujah," Leonard Cohen
- Simon - Song really worked for him; Best performance he has had in the competition
- Kara - Is now thinking he is at the front of the pack for the boys
- Ellen - Fantastic; Sounded so good; Actually went on stage and gave him a hug
- Randy - Pretty good job
Andrew Garcia - "Genie in a Bottle," Christina Aguilera
- Simon - Performance was a little desperate; Seemed like he over thought things
- Kara - Wasn't great
- Ellen - Liked the song choice
- Randy - Interesting song choice; Didn't quite work for him because it didn't have any range
Casey James - "You'll Think of Me," Keith Urban
- Simon - Second best performance; Improved from last week; Not really memorable, though
- Kara - Sort of getting back on the Casey train; Still feels like he is missing the spark
- Ellen - Thought he sounded great; Really liked the performance
- Randy - Song was a safe choice; Just alright
Aaron Kelly - "I'm Already There," Lonestar
- Simon - Hated Kara's comment; Beautiful song; Right type of song; Not necessarily the best vocal but great emotion
- Kara - Not a good song choice because wasn't relevant to a 16-year-old's life
- Ellen - Loves his confidence; Feels like his voice has been better in the past
- Randy - Very nice performance; Still has some work to do, though
Todrick Hall - "Somebody to Love," Queen
- Simon - Good at certain parts; Felt he showed America himself, a Broadway singer; Liked that he made a strong attempt to entertain the audience
- Kara - Really good singing; There were moments, though, when she didn't know if she should laugh or love
- Ellen - Made it sound like a gospel song, which sort of worked; Really brave for his song choice
- Randy - One of the best vocals by a man he has heard the last couple of weeks; Absolutely loved it
Michael Lynche - "This Woman's Work," Kate Bush
- Simon - Best performance of all the live shows they have had so far
- Kara - Actually brought Kara to tears; Amazing
- Ellen - So beautiful; Michael is the one to beat now; Feels like the show just began
- Randy - Totally blown away; Loved it
