The new season is ready to begin, and the judges are not holding back on what they think about the new group of contestants. Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey made news during auditions about a potential feud between them, but their focus is on the contestants. Hollywood Week was filmed in December, and Minaj spoke about the difficulties she had with saying no to some of the contestants. She said the following, according to E! Online:
"The human side of you comes out eventually, when you're looking at people that are this close to fulfilling their dream and in their head they have already seen it come to fruition, so saying no, it's like a dagger."
While Carey made no mention of the feud at the judge's table, she did speak up about some conflicts with the judges over some contestants. She said the following:
"We have to go against each other sometimes to say, 'But wait, this person has something amazing! Maybe you're not seeing it. It's a little bit beyond your comprehension at this moment, but there's something great about this person.'"
With a whole new look coming to season 12, Nigel Lythgoe is still the man most heavily involved with running the series behind the scenes. He spoke up about "American Idol" with the series having added competition with "The Voice" on NBC and "X Factor USA" on Fox. He said the following, according to Digital Spy:
"In fairness I suppose it's right to say that they really haven't been on the air that long yet to qualify as against American Idol. I do think that other shows tend to concentrate a little more on maybe gimmicks, maybe their judges a little too much - and I say that having just experienced two months of talking about our new judges! But hopefully the programs themselves when you see them will show you that we're still focusing on the contestants."
Keith Urban is the other new judge on the panel this season. Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest are both returning for season 12. Fans are buzzing about this series on social media. One fan said the following on Twitter recently:
