'American Idol:' Only 3 idols get to go home as finalists

On Thursday night the 3 finalists on “American Idol” were decided, and they will be able to go back to their respective hometowns next week with much pride, and the possibility of being this season’s winner. The 4 remaining idols stood on stage holding their breaths, smiling and trying very hard not to faint; which would not be surprising to take place at such life changing moment for all of them.

The first name heard as being a finalist was Jena Irene, cheers, applause and a smile froth with relief showed on this young woman’s face. Then the second name was announced and a collective cheer emanated from all corners of the arena as Caleb Johnson’s name was heard, and from him a loud “yeah”.

That meant that Jessica Meuse and Alex Preston would need to wait just a bit longer to hear their fate in the competition, and viewers held their breath because there might be a disappointment coming soon, and yes indeed, it left a lot of people speechless and dumbfounded, that Alex Preston moved on and Jessica was sent home: really! As far as vocals are concerned Jessica’s are more powerful and there is a vestige of stage presence emanating forth from her, whereas Alex is far, very far from being an entertainer.

The votes have been tallied and nothing else can be done unfortunately, however, if this had been a political competition, without question a recount would be demanded. Next week the remaining 3 idols get to visit their respective hometowns and viewers can only hope that after next week’s elimination the obvious 2, the most consistent, the most talented and the most entertaining of all idols this year; are the only ones remaining in the competition.

“American Idol” runs on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT and Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
