"American Idol" has overstayed its welcome according to many people. Despite the judges' panel shake-up and the re-signing of Jennifer Lopez, a lot of fans just aren't into "Idol" anymore -- and apparently the host, Ryan Seacrest, is ready to move on as well. On April 18, Radar Online reported that Seacrest wants off the show.
Seacrest has been with the show for the past 13 seasons, introducing the world to some incredible talent and keeping everyone on the edge of their seats with his "after the break" announcements. Despite all of the changes the show has undergone, Seacrest has been the one constant. He signed a 2-year, $30 million contract and it's set to expire after this season (the finale airs on May 21). Sources say that Ryan has little to no intention of returning to the "Idol" stage.
"American Idol" has seen a drop in viewership over the years. Although this season seemed promising with three judges who all seem well-liked, there's just nothing that is keeping viewers captivated. With shows like "The Voice" and "America's Got Talent" on the block, it's hard for "Idol" to hold its ground. Even Simon Cowell's show "The X Factor" was cancelled after just three seasons. There's just too much competition out there now.
According to Perez Hilton, Ryan Seacrest plans on cutting back in other aspects of his professional life as well. Sources say that Seacrest wants to focus on the producing aspect of television and that he will be making less appearances and hosting fewer events in the future. With his eggs in many different baskets nowadays, Seacrest doesn't have to rely on his face and his voice anymore. If he wants to do more behind-the-scenes stuff, that's what he should do.
"American Idol" might not even get wings for a new season so Ryan Seacrest might be thinking of cutting ties are the right time.
