American Idol never made an offer to Howard Stern according to an MSNBC.com report released Thursday.
“Could he have talked to someone at 19 Entertainment Sure. Did he get an offer? No. No way," a source inside American Idol told Courtney Hazlett, a writer for MSNBC.com's "The Scoop" page. 19 Entertainment is the production company responsible for American Idol.
Wednesday, the Parents' Television Council demanded that Fox publicly state that they had no intention of hiring Howard Stern for American Idol at any price. Multiple media sources have also reported that fledgling Idol judge Ellen Degeneres has made it known that she will leave the show immediately if Howard Stern is hired.
Before the American Idol rumor broke, Howard Stern told his audience that he was "approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year". Once American Idol was identified as the potential suitor through a story in the New York Post, Howard Stern stated he couldn't talke about any discussions that had taken place.
"I haven't been feeding into this other than having fun...I don't give a s--- about American Idol," said Stern Wednesday in response to those claiming that he was using the American Idol rumor as leverage in his upcoming contract negotiations with Sirius XM. "I haven't created any of this."
