'American Idol': Mariah Carey discusses becoming a part of the show

Mariah Carey of "American Idol" is the topic of a new report that was published on January 3. According to the report, the singer discussed why she decided to become a part of the popular singing competition.

As People reports, Mariah Carey said of the show in The Hollywood Reporter: "I was on the fence about the whole thing. I got approached by all the shows. [My husband Nick Cannon] said I should do it because it's the top. It's the cream of the crop. And I felt like, 'Do the show that's produced massive stars who have had major careers.'"

The singer is one of the most successful of all time. She has sold a countless amount of records around the world, and she has millions of fans. Viewers are excited to tune in to watch the newest season of the show, and to see Carey along with Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson. Jackson is the only original judge that remains on the show.
