American Idol Live hit Charlotte on Thursday night as part of their after contest tour. Quite a few of the eleven contestants who performed auditioned for Idol right here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Among them was season 12 winner, Candice Glover from Beaufort, South Carolina.
Candice Glover's ascension to Idol fame came after trying out on three different occasions. Her last audition in Charlotte was the charm! Often people give up on their dreams before they get their big breaks, or walk away from situations and relationships before giving them a real chance.
Glover's persistence is a lesson in determination and overcoming fear, rejection and self-esteem issues. Glover spoke candidly about her issues with weight and self-image during this year's Idol contest. One issue that was apparent during the concert on Thursday night, was the lack of wardrobe changes for Glover.
Whereas the other female contestants had several changes from skirts to dresses to liquid leggings, Glover only switched out of her jacket. It is no wonder some people have issues embracing themselves, when everyone and everything around them are constant reminders of their "differences".
Despite those small inconveniences, Glover and runner-up Kree Harrison reminded the audience why they finished one and two in the competition. Harrison, who also auditioned in Charlotte, brought the crowd to life with her rendition of "Hold On" and her soon to debut single, "All Cried Out."
The music selections were great with pop hits like "Diamonds" and "Blurred Lines," performed by Angie Miller, Amber Holcomb, Janelle Arthur, and Aubrey Cleland. However, Holcomb's rendition of Rihanna's "We Found Love" left a lot to be desired. The video to Rihanna's song is a disturbing tribute to her fiery relationship with Chris Brown. Unfortunately Holcomb brought no fire to the performance.
Holcomb's performance came after a tremendous performance by Curtis Finch Jr. Finch Jr's performance of "When I Was Your Man," was phenomenal. He took the notes to falsetto and wowed the crowed. Young girls in the audience screamed with glee each time the boys took the stage. They were dressed immaculately and performed well together.
Overall the show was great family fun and heaven for a couple of preteens who were the lucky recipients of backstage passes thanks to a friend of Candice Glover.
