'American Idol' Kris Allen hurt in car accident, announces pregnancy (Video)

Kris Allen and his wife Katy were involved in an auto accident on New Year's Day. Luckily, Allen and his wife are okay, and Allen tweeted on Jan. 1 that he not only was okay after the wreck, but his pregnant wife was all right as well.

Allen, a country music superstar, won "American Idol" in season eight back in 2009. Interestingly, this was the first time that he announced he was going to be a father, and it was only as part of his tweets about the accident. Thankfully, Allen and his wife's future child was not harmed in the accident either.

Their dog, Zorro, was also in the wreck, and came out okay as well.

Allen released his first album after winning "American Idol" in 2009. The self-titled album debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Top 100 charts and his first single, "Live Like We're Dying" reached No. 1 18 on the U.S. charts. His second album, "Thanks You Camellia" hit stores in May 2012 and reached No. 26 on the Top 100.

Allen is currently on his "Out Alive" tour and he said the injuries from the accident, including a broken wrist, will not stop the tour.

High school sweethearts, Kris and Katy married in 2008, and she backed him as he tried out for "American Idol," what he considered to be his last chance before giving up on a music career. Allen ended up beating Adam Lambert in the competition.
