President Obama made a last push to encourage people to get out and vote through an interview with 'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest.
Yesterday, Seacrest aired the just-under ten minute dialogue with the President on his syndicated radio show, "On Air with Ryan Seacrest." President Obama aimed for charming and sincere, but may not have accomplished what he set out to do, which was get more Democrats elected.
President Obama, an obvious fan of popular culture, was also a recent guest on Jon Stewart's Daily Show, aired on Comedy Central.
The audio from Ryan Seacrest's full interview with President Obama, hosted by RyanSeacrest.com. can be heard at left.
Seacrest predictably tossed Obama soft-ball questions. For example, the 'Idol' host asked Obama if we (the American public) get enough of the right information from the media.
The President's answer? Obama was somewhat defensive, but not very specific about his administration's achievements, instead complaining that:
"Negative ads don't give a good sense of what's taken place out there."
When asked about where he ranks Immigration reform, Obama agreed it was "important," and that:
"we need a system...in which we've got strong border security...people come here legally, but it's easier for people to get legal status...people currently here in an undocumented way need to pay a fine and learn English and pay back taxes but can come out of the shadows."
What's Obama's message to those men and women who are listening right now who are frustrated because they are out of work?
"Obviously, if they are young people, the most important message I have is toMake sure you are doing everything you can to maximize your education and your skills...the more that we have the best trained young people in the world, not only is that going to be good for them, that's going to be good for the whole country."
President Obama didn't really address what recently laid off Americans could look forward to, but did add that we need to invest in the country's infrastructure and new industries.
Did we hear anything new?
We found out the President's daughters were dressed as a Sour Patch Kid and a turkey for Halloween.
What do you think of President Obama spending time with pop culture hosts like Jon Stewart and Ryan Seacrest? Do you feel these are the best venues for a global leader to express himself, and did he do so in a way that satisfies your own questions? Continue the conversation and comment below!
