"You're going to Hollywood!" are the words just about every person wants to hear when they set out to audition for American Idol.
In its 11th season, the show is continuing with its success and is also continuing with its traditional Hollywood week.
Hollywood week is when the auditioners who passed the first round of singing for the judges sing a few times more. The more intimate -- usually in a theater in Los Angeles -- auditons have various parts. The Idol hopefuls not only have to impress the judges -- Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler -- with their own vocals, but they also have to get along with their competition.
The auditioners are set to group up and choose a song from a given list. They must learn the lyrics and remember their own dance moves... or else. One of the biggest pet peeves the Idol judges usually have is people who forget the lyrics. If you start to hum at any point, you will be sent home. After the group performances, the judges begin to send even more people home. If a contestant hates their group mates, that just may effect their performance, sending them home.
It's a grueling week of drama, drama, drama and no one gets out of it feeling fabulous. It's how the judges recognize who is ready for the crazy world of the music industry and who just isn't cut out for it. However, an up side to Hollywood week is that if you get cut, you can always audition again next year -- that is, if you're not too old.
Tune in to American Idol this week on Wednesday and Thursday on FOX at 8/7c.
