Unfortunately, the show started off on the wrong note as fashionista Naomi Morris shrieked a cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” Even after the judges gave her a second chance, she failed to impress everyone with a cover of the Righteous Brothers’ “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”

Bookkeeper Brian Rittenberry turned the auditions around when he delivered a powerful cover of the Beatles’ “Let It Be.” His vocals were impressive that impressed Mariah while Keith added that there was a good light about Brian. He received four yeses and a Golden Ticket to Hollywood.

25-year-old social worker Jimmy Smith was one of the first contestants that was shown that submitted his audition online. Jimmy’s voice was not only incredible but showcased incredible vocal runs. Jimmy has the voice of a genuine country star that this show desperate needs and hopefully, he will shine in Hollywood.

For the third time this season, Randy traveled to Georgia to visit high school student Isabel Gonzales. She was nominated by her aunt to perform in front of the judges. Isabel showcased her impressive voice that made Nicki Minaj fall head over heels in love with her. Keith added that her audition was “effortless” and was a natural. Mariah also stated that she was adorable and that she is a star. Isabel was met with a silly string parade as she announced that she was going to Hollywood.

To end the first hour of Idol, the show decided to show the origins of the fight that was heard around the world. It began when all of the judges were divided about who was going to Hollywood. The bickering intensified when Summer Cummingham entered the audition room. While she showcased bold vocals, the judges entered a debate on whether she should sing country music. This conversation made Summer uncomfortable and Nicki furious.

After the fight, Navy reservist Brandy Hamilton was nervous to even enter the room because she did not want to cause another fight between the judges. However, she turned down the tension with her impressive take on Etta James’ “All I Could Do is Cry.” Randy stated that Brandy could lite up the room while Keith wanted to hear more of her. Even Nicki and Mariah agreed to let her to Hollywood.

Charlotte continued to find talent included Ashley Smith, who stunned everyone with the quartet with her cover of Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova;” fitness instructor Jenelle Arthur and Rodney Barber, “the Voice of Charlotte,” who battled being homeless by his big vocals. While Keith left the auditions, a familiar face returned to face the judges. 22-year-old Candice Glover was eliminated during Vegas Week but came back with a vengeance as her audition received a standing ovation from both Randy and Mariah. She was unanimously voted through to Hollywood.

The final audition of Charlotte belonged to native Sertha Quinn, who is a hairstylist and mom. She came in with her adorable daughter, London, who brought Nicki Minaj, a big pink bear named Dun-Dun. Sertha stunned the judges with her outstanding covers of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “How Do You Live” that astonished the judges and received the final Golden Ticket of Charlotte.

Tomorrow night, the show heads down to the Dawg’s hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
