Ellen Degeneres will leave American Idol if producers hire Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell according to a Chicago Sun Times report released Wednesday.
Sun Times columnist Bill Zwecker cited a "veteran 'Idol' staffer" with telling him: “Ellen has told just about anyone who will listen that she's totally opposed to the [Howard Stern] idea." The same source also told Zwecker that Ellen Degeneres has said she will leave the show "immediately" if Howard Stern is hired.
Howard Stern continued to respond to the American Idol rumors on Wednesday morning's Howard Stern Show: "I haven't been feeding into this other than having fun...I don't give a s--- about American Idol. I haven't created anything in this."
Howard Stern's last three days of American Idol "fun" have included hours of speculation about what he might say to co-hosts, contestants and fans were he to actually ink an American Idol deal. Stern has been especially gleeful in his roasting of Ellen Degeneres. Monday morning, he delighted in trashing Degeneres' contract with Cover Girl cosmetics by saying that she "looks like she smelled a rotten egg".
Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers played highlights from Degeneres' Tuesday night American Idol debut during her news segment.
"Sounds like a scream," said Howard Stern sarcastically after hearing Degeneres' cornball comments for the American Idol contestants.

Ellen fits the show. She does an awesome job. Stern would kill AI. And he stands for nothing but controversy. That is the saddest thing - a person without a personality or brains, that depends on controversy to be heard... The producers would never offer the seat to H. Stern. and yes, I think Ellen would leave if they had.

Ugh. Howard Sterns is a disgusting human being and ugly as a troll. If it weren't for his money, that girl who married him would have run away from him, screaming. He has no business criticizing anyone else. Pot, Kettle, Black. American Idol would NEVER hire him. Thank god he's on Sirius where nobody has to put up with him on mainstream media.
