'American Idol:' does Simon Cowell go after Ellen DeGeneres?

Simon Cowell is less than a week away from saying goodbye to "American Idol," but already we're hearing the famous British judge say plenty about his potential replacement.

In a new story from the New York Post, Cowell makes it relatively clear that the show needs to go in a different direction finding their new judge than they did with their selection of Ellen DeGeneres:

"I think primarily, you've got to have somebody on that panel who actually knows what they're talking about -- because everyone is talking about casting the nasty person or this person or get another Brit.

"If we were judging ice skating, I mean, you wouldn't have somebody on who's obnoxious. You'd have somebody who knows the difference between a 10, a 9 and an 8.

"I think, to a point, [the show] has to get back to that."

Back when Ellen was originally placed on the judges' panel, the logic was that she would represent a voice from the "fans" who don't necessarily see everything from a technical perspective. She is also an entertainer, and knows exactly what sort of entertainment others are looking for.

Do you think Simon has a point, and who do you think should replace him on the show? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more "American Idol" news. To view recent "Idol" photos, follow the link here.

I'm SO SAD Simon Cowell is leaving IDOL! YES, they absolutely need to find someone who actually knows what they are talking about if the show is to have any integrity! I have always been irritated by the crowd booing Simon's comments of expertise judging. As he has said, "I am only saying what everyone else is thinking" and he was usually right on in his judging. I've been worried the show will lose it's integrity without someone who really knows what they are judging and what is at stake for these talented hopefuls!

Doesn't matter to me who they get to replace him. Idol is pretty much done, at least for me. Tired of it and no Simon? Fail. Simon is bringing X Factor over here. I like it better anyway. I'm waiting for that. Should be really, really good if it's anything like the UK one.

With the addition of Ellen, the show has gone right down the tubes (no pun intended). Ellen has no clue what she is talking about and does little more then parrot whatever Randy Jackson says. Ellen stammers repeatedly and uses the word 'I' as many as 6 times in one sentence. They use to change the order of who spoke first, but then Ellen would have to go first so they had to change that format. I dread who will be Simon's replacement, maybe Michelle Obama would fit right in to the abortion that they have created. I believe Ellen is the reason that Simon is leaving and she is also the reason I won't be watching next year.
