'American Idol' - Crystal Bowersox hospitalization update - Ryan Seacrest, host of FOX's American Idol, has just posted an update video interview concerning contestant Crystal Bowersox's hospitalization. The video is an interview between Seacrest and Idol Executive Producer, Ken Warwick, on Seacrest's Los Angeles-based radio show that discusses whether or not Ms. Bowersox will be able to perform live in tonight's competition.
Mr. Warwick stated that if Ms. Bowersox is not able to compete tonight, the show may be forced to disqualify her and would only drop one female singer from the competition this week. He said a decision would be made "mid-day" as to whether or not she would be able to perform. He compared the disqualification to not being able to compete in the Olympics--if you don't show up, for whatever reason, you are not given a pass to the next round.
Mr. Warwick gave the background to the hospitalization. He received a phone call that Ms. Bowersox had been taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning, and he found out later that she would be there all day and would not be able to perform Tuesday evening.
The show's staff needed to decide what to do about the situation and came up with seeing if the male contestants would be willing to switch their night from Wednesday to Tuesday, since several of the other females were also suffering from sniffles and other flu-like minor symptoms. That's when the men had their performance day changed.
Some viewers think this put the men at an unfair disadvantage, giving them one day less to prepare.
Ms. Bowersox is popular among many viewers because of her "indie vibe." She said she auditioned for Idol to make a better life for her young son.
