The favorite for this season of "American Idol" is under attack by some critics, and for all the wrong reasons. Crystal Bowersox has seen some criticism for her teeth of all things, and it prompted her to recently talk about it in a blog entry:
“No thank you, New York dentist. I am beautiful exactly the way I am.”
Many "Idol" contestants over the years all go through the same process of "image-shaping," which includes visits to the dentist, salon, and even the clothing store. After all, fitting the show's destination of a "superstar" seems to e important -- or is it? Last season's runner-up Adam Lambert never completely conformed to the show's standards, and now Bowersox is doing the same.
On Tuesday, Crystal will have the opportunity to rebound from a less-stellar-than-usual performance with a song from Frank Sinatra's catalog. As with most of the other singers, finding a way to make the song current could very well be the biggest challenge.

Good for Crystal. I agree that she is beautiful the way she is, and she should not change anything unless she chooses to do so.
Her talent matters the most, but if AI is offering free dental care, she should take it..all it will do is brighten her already beautiful smile.

Crystal should have gone to the dentist for whitening and replace that missing tooth and something needs to be done with that hair!! It looks like she needs to wash it very badly ..I definitely believe when performing in front of paid audiences one should look and act their best!! This could only help her in the future for more success but if she decides not to do this than it is her choice.....she will go far anyway but she could go farther!! For example look at the great Celine Dion and her many improved changes and now not only is Celine talented but beautifull!! Celine found that changes were necessary for success!!

The dentist is in New York for one and I read the article, jump a plane and I'll fix them. What dump the show for free work? Her teeth are going through whitening now from first show, I can tell by her appearance. Ever think this dentist is after free publicity? Or is that too easy to recognize that? Common sense folks common sense.
Good for her. She is whitening her teeth and that is good.. the missing tooth gives her charm. Crystal is a great talent, my mom loves her. I am not into her genera tho. None the less, she is bound to give a good show at the idol's tour.. I think they all will.. that idol stage is doing something bad to those kids this year.

Because we all know that if she does any kind of hygiene, dental included, what so ever she wouldn't be the genuine "pig pen"/Crystal right? You see, she's trying to appear genuine by staying true to her roots of living under subways and devouring small rodents. So in order to give this appearance of being "genuine" she must not do hygiene, take a bath, or wash her dreds. She needs this to win! But in a way, she's being a fake, by trying not to look like a fake, hmmm. Poor Shrek, he will get himself a new Ho tonight or face those ugly teeth (or lack of), lol.

Crystal is gifted, charming and beautiful. We love her just the way she is. Perhaps all of those who find fault with her should look in the mirror for a long time - they will be very lucky if what they see is more beautiful than Crystal. Then they need to ask themselves why they are so mean spirited and have so many ugly warts in their sick minds.
I personally think that Crystal is lovely, her face is so uniquely beautiful. Great skin. Love the whole package. As an aside 'though, I'm glad to read that she is taking advantage of the teeth whitening, man I would :)!

I do feel Crystal's teeth are a distraction and a sign of carelessness with her health. Adam Lambert has an amazing set of teeth and a million dollar smile! Linking these two artist together is ridiculous. Adam is nothing like Crystal. He has way more talent than she does and more personality as well.
If a dentist offered to fix her teeth for free, she should take him/her up on that offer. Crystal's teeth look like an old man's teeth who has been smoking for 30 years or so and not a sign of a healthy young women.

Crystal is beautiful just the way she is, and she sings like an angel. Boo to all those who think she needs transformation into another "Barbie". Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and I behold Crystal is beautiful.

BTW: Dreadlocks aren't necessarily "dirty." Most people who wear dreads wash their hair as often as the next person. It's a misconception that dreads are dirty.

LMAO!!!! I did not write this...infact I was asleep..I stand by what I said about Crystal!! You just watch..IF she does win AI she will change her appearance!..I am not jealous of Crystal..How can I be since I did wish her well and she will go far but there are things that need to change...I am being realistic and sometimes it is not popular but a change can only help Crystal and if we all look at ourselves even a year ago... look at the changes we made.

I think appearance is A MUST regardles of what you are. Not only celebrities need to be neat, we all do and I am not talking about plastic surgery. Teeth are very important and yeah I would run to the dentist to get them fixed. A STATEMENT SUCH AS, SORRY I LIKE THE WAY I AM is self neglect.

Her teeth may be okay for everyday use but on TV they look a bit yellow. I know, because I'm looking at her mouth when she's singing. You can't help but notice, and the stud under the lip also draws attention to her mouth (and her yellow teeth).
Yes, she needs to get her teeth fixed. You don't want to give people impression that you never brush your teeth. Yuck!
People aren't necessarily jealous because of Crystal simply because they make remarks about her teeth or appearance. They see that she doesn't take pride in her appearance, and they don't understand it.

Crystal seems like a person who long ago had to deal with not being able to do anything about outward appearances. Instead probably going to her inner calm and beauty and using her music to show people she is deeper than the color of teeth, hair styles, etc. Smart girl; who wants to turn out like all those shallow plastic people who are only skin deep??
Unfortunately our society DOES judge people by their appearance. Apparently Crystal doesn't give a crap about what people think. I agree with an earlier post that her teeth looks like an old mans who has been smoking for the last 50 years. Crystal needs to clean up her image, get her teeth fixed and get the mop on top of her head cut. Who knows what's living in those dreadlocks. Yuck! By appearances alone, I wouldn't spend a dollar on her music. I may be shallow, but that's society. She may be able to belt out a song, but you can't stand looking at her. Gross!!!
It's sooo sad to see people be so mean spirited over such a rare and beautiful young lady. I love love love her just the way she is. I wouldn't care if here teeth were green. There's an Ora that shallow minded people cant' see all around here. That's sad. My guess is these people that hate on her because of her looks have no idea what REALLY matters in life.
I have to add one more concern. What petrifies me is that our society is raising a generation of self absorbed, narcissistic people that will probably vote our future presidents in by looks alone. Now that’s scary.

I haven't seen talent like Crystal's in a very long time. She can sing a large variety of songs and nail them to a tee. If she doesn't get a recording offer it's someones loss. I would buy every c.d. she puts out. She is a breath of fresh air. She is a very real person. What you see, is what you get.
