'American Idol': Crystal Bowersox defends ex from 'hate mail'

After the "American Idol" finale aired last May, finalist Crystal Bowersox wasn't getting asked too much about her music -- rather, one of the primary topics of conversation was how she and boyfriend Tony Kusian broke up the morning of the performance show finale.

Suffice it to say, the media has not exactly been too friendly when it comes to Tony ever since. Crystal now has a message for those people -- it's okay. In a new interview with Redbook, the singer explains:

“I feel like he’s getting portrayed as this person who up and left me on the biggest day of my life and that’s not the case at all.

“I mean, he’s getting hate mail and horrible messages online. So I want to make clear how amazing, kind and generous a person he is.”

Bowersox goes on to say that she and Tony were just simply "different people", and that they knew it wasn't going to work out once Crystal became more immersed in the show and its process.

Thankfully, the singer doesn't really have much time to think about relationships (or even face questions about them) now, as she is part of the "American Idol" nationwide tour. To view photos from the top ten's stop at "Good Morning America", follow the link here.
