American Idol contestant Chris Golightly has been disqualified from the competition only hours after the announcement that he had been advanced to the show's Top 24 semfinals.

Representatives for Fox would not comment on the specifics of why Chris Golightly was disqualified from the American Idol competition, but released this statement late Wednesday:

"It has been determined that Chris Golightly is ineligible to continue in the competition. 'American Idol' contestant Tim Urban has replaced Golightly as part of the Top 24."

USA Today reported Thursday that Golightly disqualification was a result of his Lawrence Franklin contacting the show to state that the contestant was still under contract.A similar incident happened during American Idol Season 8 when semifinalist Joanna Pacitti was advanced and then disqualified after her own recording contract came to light. Pacitti was replaced by contestant Felicia Barton who failed to advance to the finals.

Golightly told USA Today: "This is not fair. I don't know what to do."

American Idol released a statement that Chris Golightly had been disqualified and replaced in the Top 24 by contestant Tim Urban.
