American Idol Season 10 semi-finalist Crystal Bowersox was hospitalized in Los Angeles on Tuesday for undisclosed reasons.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced Bowersox's hospitalization at the top of Tuesday night's live show. The Top 10 female semifinalists were originally scheduled to perform Tuesday, but American Idol producers made a last minute switch after Bowersox fell ill. The decision, which was presumably made to allow Crystal Bowersox a chance to heal from her as yet undisclosed illness, meant that the Top 10 male semifinalist had to take the stage a day earlier than expected.
Fox released a statement regarding the Crystal Bowersox hospitalization on Tuesday before American Idol went live, stating:
"Due to medical issues which would prevent Crystal Bowersox from performing tonight, the 10 male semifinalists will perform this evening, and the 10 female semifinalists will perform tomorrow night."
Bowersox was one of the few contestants to receive praise during last week's Season 10 live opener, singing Alanis Morissette's 'Hand in My Pocket'. The 24-year-old single mother from Elliston, Ohio was featured throughout the early rounds of this season's Idol.
