American Idol producers have asked Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell on America's iconic television karoake contest according to a New York Post article released Friday.
The NY Post cites an unnamed "insider" source at American Idol who states that Howard Stern is the number one pick to replace Cowell for Season 10.
"They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him."

On Wednesday's Howard Stern Show broadcast, the self-proclaimed King of all Media stated that he had been approached by a 'major TV network' program. Stern wouldn't name the show, and said that he wasn't interested in "negotiating" with a show that couldn't meet his hefty demands.

As with most major news announcement related to the Howard Stern Show, the American Idol scoop comes on a Howard Stern Show repeat broadcast day. Fans will have to wait until Monday's live broadcast to hear comment on the Idol offer from the King himself.
Howard Stern's contract with Sirius XM expires in January 2011.
