'American Idol:' Adam Lambert will serve as mentor for April 13 episode

We've known for a while now that Adam Lambert would be performing on "American Idol" in the near future -- as it turns out, he will also be serving as a mentor. In a new series of postings on the singer's Twitter account, he confirmed that he will be helping out the top eight contestants for the episode airing on April 13:

"It's true! In addition to performing on Idol April 14th, I will be mentoring the top 8 on the 13th. I feel honored to be asked.

"Even though I'm just at the start of my recording career, I hope to lend some insight as one who's been thru the Idol adventure. excited!!"

Of course, Adam's selection as a mentor is being met with a mixed reaction. While some of us are literally bouncing up and down in their chairs with joy, there are also those who (similar to when Miley Cyrus was on board) believe that he lacks the experience for the job. Adam is the first past "Idol" to be selected as a mentor.

On the other hand, Adam brings both a sense of artistry and honesty that the "Idol" hopefuls may appreciate. He has already been very successful in the music industry, and his knowledge of the show experience could go a long way.

There are also reports that the song Adam is scheduled to perform on the April 14 results show is "Whataya Want From Me" -- though that has not been confirmed by the singer.

Are you excited that Adam Lambert will be a mentor on "American Idol?" Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more "American Idol" news.

What a wonderful honor--so happy for him!!! I think that, although he hasn't been in the industry for long, his having gone through the Idol experience will be extremely helpful to the contestants. He can see it through the same eyes as they do. Can't wait til the 13th.

I'm so excited! He will make a natural mentor. I remember in an interview he did when he said the coaches on the show told him he should not help the other contestants so much. He said, that's what friends do. Then he said something like..I found I have an inner teacher in me. He may not have the experience selling records but he has plenty of experience in the entertainment field and his influence is already felt around the world.

    Oh puke!

For once they got somebody who went through the idol mill to give some guidance. Adam is the correct person too as he had proved himself to be selfless in helping other contestants during season 8, yes, even to Gokey who seemed not to approve of Adam. However, while the choice will be welcomed enthusiastically by those who are keen music lovers, it will inevitably turn off a minority of bigoted homophobes

I think Adam has been doing an outstanding job selling his record....that is why in some countries it went gold and platinium..so what does that tell you? Adam does have the Idol experience and can relate to the contestants while other mentors did not have the AI experience and speaking of experience Adam has been in the entertainment business since he was 10 years old...Adam is also an international star..like him or not Adam is undeniable an outstanding performer and no one can take that away from him.

I do hope we get a chance to see Adam in high gear! It's always a treat to see him perform, altho the AMA performance was not at all him at his best--not just the kissing & grinding so much (which didn't exactly do him justice & put off much of his target audience)as his trying too hard to be "edgy" at the expense of his singing. It would be great if he could take us past all of that with a really stellar performance, to remind America what he is capable of and give his fans a chance to see more of him. He has been noticeably absent from the mainstream. The "Boy George" look alike album cover & "Glam Rock" agenda didn't help much to keep things on track -- too much of a distraction from his very real, very viable talents, which I feel have been diminished by the theatrics & Kabuki mask pancake make-up & eyeshadow. I'd love to be able to see his eyes again! I hope this AI appearance puts him back on the charts & gives Adam Lambert the kind of attention & success his talent deserves!

Correction: Adam Lambert's talents can't be diminished by anything, so rather than suggesting his talents have been diminished by the distraction of the Kabuki style pancake make-up & glittering eyeshadow, a better word would be "overshadowed". I want to see his handsome face & expressions when he sings, not a mask. As far as being a mentor, who better than American-Idol-wannabe-turned-Superstar, Adam Lambert? But as for turning away from the Super-Stardom he achieved through AI to pursue his own Glam-Rock agenda (which has a much more limited audience appeal)--maybe Adam could use a bit of mentoring himself!...maybe Cowell can take him aside & set him straight! Adam's appeal crossed generations (as well as genders)--like Sinatra, Clark Gable, Elvis, he had "IT"! Mothers & daughters & grandmothers alike all loved him--you can see them in the audience together in mutual rapt admiration. To ignore that to emulate Boy George (who NEVER had such appeal nor talent!)--what was Adam thinking?
