Adam Lambert isn't asking for a any gifts for his birthday on Friday; rather, he is encouraging all of his fans to donate to support education projects throughout America. The "American Idol" runner-up re-tweeted the news on Wednesday, directing everyone to the main page of DonorsChoose.org.

What does the organization do? Patrons can donate to a variety of small projects, all of which help young people obtain a better education. Some current requests include money in order to buy:

  • Keyboard for music classes
  • Recycling bins for a class project
  • Books
  • An iPod
  • Guitar and violin strings

In honor of Adam's 28th birthday, DonorsChoose is asking for donations of $28.

Before lending a hand to the effort in Haiti, supporting education (particularly int he arts) was one of Adam Lambert's favorite causes. Now, he is asking his fans to give back again if they are able.

Do you plan on giving back for Adam's birthday? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more "American Idol" news.

Matt, I'm quickly becoming your fan for writing about my fav Adam Lambert and for recognizing his redeeming qualities as an entertainer and human being. Yes, I've already done what His Hotness has requested and have donated in his honor to DonorsChoice as well as to the Red Cross for Haiti. It's not very often that a rising star comes along to bring awareness to the needs of others without demanding all the attention to himself. And Matt, great job!

As a gift I am donating the 28.00 to DonorsChoose.org. Because of Adam bringing my attention to this very worthy charity I have an automatic $10 donated monthly. It's not much but has already helped complete several projects & you receive notes from the kids / teachers that are heart-warming & validate my donations. The education system has been hard hit this last decade so many of the things that make learning fun & interesting are not in the budgets. This is a small way to help.

I donated to a local class for Christmas. I would not have known about DonorsChoice if it weren't for Adam. I received pictures of these wonderful kindergartners learning to write on their own little lined white boards made possible by my donation and the donations of others. Their smiles were priceless...and their printing was excellent! So it will be a pleasure to donate again in honor of Adam's birthday. He is one of a kind. Thanks Matt, for letting us know.

Financially I am not able to donate however I will be donating blood at a local blood drive in the near future. It is said that on 7% of people have the rarest blood type which is O neg and as it turns out that's what I am (as well as my daughter) This means our blood can be given to ANYBODY in need! It makes me feel good that I can help!
