'American Idol': Adam Lambert's Singapore performance leaves chart impact

When Adam Lambert performed in Singapore over the weekend, he didn't just win rave reviews from most of the concert critics in the audience -- he also left his mark on the nation's version of the Billboard chart.

Every single the former "American Idol" star has released in the country to this point has reached the top spot on the Hot 30 Countdown, and now we can say the same for "Fever." The Lady Gaga-penned number has yet to be released on its own here in the United States, and there is some debate as to if it will since American radio tends to unfortunately be more conservative than elsewhere in the world.

With that in mind, two other quality songs in "Sleepwalker" and "Aftermath" are currently being considered. Would you like to see one of these songs start working their way up the radio charts? As always, stay tuned for more Adam news (which may be a bit more inconsistent this week due to the singer's vacation).

if the radio could play "satisfaction", there's no reason why they can't play "fever".

  • suziequeue 1 year ago

I would love to see any new single by adam lambert...especially if it comes with a new video!!
My first choice would be Aftermath...I still love Pick U Up too!! Maybe even Can't Let You Go.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

That SINGAPORE, where male gay sexuality is illegal, would play Fever, while the American radio refuses to, is tragic. The reason clearly is not that American radio is squeamish about sex--has anyone read the lyrics to Rihanna's Rude Boy?

Anyhow, we all know what the reason is. I live in the US and know my country. Fever will not be played on American radio. That is a fact. I'm hoping for nice, safe Sleepwalker next.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

U are right, there's no reason but they will not play FEVER. Satisfaction was released long time ago, the time the people were not that "constipated". Our days Satisfaction is accepted "as is" because the constipated can't change the past anyways.

Therefore, for ADAM's good, i think Sleepwalker will do great!. It is more rock (and almost anybody likes Adam singing rock), there's a lot of emotion and gives plenty of room for different interpretations, costumes....

Aftermath is the best song on Adam's amazing CD. I would LOVE to see it released as a single!! It is great on the CD and even better in person! It gave me chills at his concert!!!

You are so right!!! I like the choice of songs you have chosen and I also like Broken Open

I think Adam Lambert has been given the shaft here in the States. No offense, but when Beyonce can come out and jiggle her bootie and upper half barely dressed, then why was Adam Lambert given the big boo around America for his Grammy Performance. Is a man's sexuality and less than a woman's? I guess it is in the US of A. Fever is not any more provocative than "Lay Lady Lay" or songs by rappers who call women the W stands for H word. He's expressing the dangerous things we can do when we're attracted to someone. If Americans are that afraid of a song about making love, then it must be because they've become so selfish that they can't make love themselves. "Check it an see...I've got a fever of a hundred and three. Come on baby, do you do more than dance? I'm hot blooded hot blooded" Does that song sound familiar? And no, Adam Lambert didn't write it or sing it.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Aftermath is a favorite and think it will do well.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

The U.S. radio stations are so conservative, they really make us the laughingstock of the world. It is downright embarassing how backward we are sometimes! We need Fever released as a single, because it is such a fine song, but we won't because of the pervasive homophopbia in the radio industry. It is criminal that we practically have to beg djs to play his existing singles. Yet Adam Lambert continues to fly up the charts despite this. Imagine if he actually got some support? It is only a matter of time! Thank you to the rest of the world for supporting this awesome performer!
ps I would love another single and video - Adam is so fantastic, he must be captured on film as much as possible!

  • Gloria476 1 year ago

If the US can play Rhianna and Lady GaGa and Maroon5 (listen to some of their lyrics) FEVER is tame, besides that it is a GREAT SONG! Should be played here in the states. I would love to hear it as a single, but "SLEEPWALKER" would be my choice after that.
ADAM ROCKS MY WORLD (ROCK & SEX GOD)!!!
    ADAM IS PURE PERFECTION!!!

  • Viv1234 1 year ago

I would LOVE to hear more of adam's songs on the radio!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

    Or birthday sex.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I would like to see Sleepwalker as a single. Aftermath is really my favorite but it took me a long time to really like it and understand the meaning behind the lyrics and would need alot of airplay. It seems like fever really isn't being considered here, such a waste of a great song!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Took me forever to like Aftermath, but the lyrics are wonderful. It's one of my favs now. Though Fever would be delicious as a single. Have to admit though that Sleepwalker is a better Fall single.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I love love Sleepwalker. I think people's ears are saturated with Gaga's music. Fever won't do too well here. I love Voodoo also but I believe Adam mentioned at one of his interviews that the song isn't radio friendly. How is Fever doing in Australia? I believe RCA released it there first!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

FEVER! Please! American radio prudes, make it so.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I really hope that Sleepwalker will be Adam's next single. Don't care for Aftermath all that much although it's not bad. I just prefer Sleepwalker as do most of the folks I talk to.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Fever for gods sake. It gives us girls a song to sing to our sweeties. Many singers that do covers have long sung the words written by the original song writer. LADY GAGA wrote this. All the fuss is hypocritical much ado about nothing.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I would really like Fever for the next single. I think it deserves a chance.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Sleepwalker would be a huge hit, even here in the good ole USA. Enough upbeat hip hop is being played, everyone needs to hear what a true singing voice sounds like!! I would also LOVE to see what kind of video would represent such a fantastic song!!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I love fever but let's face it,sleepwalker is better choice for this backwards country!! It's an amazing song but SAFE song!! It will do great and I can just imagin the music video that will go with it.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Did you say concervative?????? They are not concervative, they are homophobe. If they are concervative, as you say, then they should not be playing a lot os sexually charged songs such as: rude boys, 1 2 3 by Brittny. That new enrike song, baby you like it and the list is LOOONG! U know what I mean.
They are SCARED!!!! That's all. They have no balls. Cowards.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

What you stated is correct - they would not be playing some of the songs they do if they were "conservative." They're homophobes - no other reason as Lambert's music is superior to 99%, maybe 100%, of the stuff that is played. Thanks for your comment.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I am very happy for Adam. He is a superstar!!!
A agree, America is scared homophobe!!! Too bad!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I would like his entire album to be released single by single, but as much as I love "Fever", I agree with Adam and sadly I don't think American radio stations would react as positively as the rest of the world! I guess my choice would then be "Sleepwalker".

  • dlh 1 year ago

My vote goes to Sleepwalker!!!!! And he needs to round the talk shows to promote the song!!! When he sings it live, its insane!!! I agree with another here about Radio...it is not conservative, its blatantly homophobic. The reason they fear releasing it is the "there HE goes" part. Nothing else in that song is even remotely close to some of the other horrid/sexual/violent crap on the radio. THAT my friends is HOMOPHOBIC...period.

  • Huge fan 1 year ago

I think they should play all his songs. A perfect world would be Adam Lambert on the radio 24/7.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Screw the radio stations and their prejudice! They can play "I Kissed a Girl" a million times but one little word "he" would stop them from playing "Fever"? That is absolutely ridiculous!! Could be one of the many reasons why I don't listen to the radio stations any longer. I have requested Adam's music over and over again here in Dallas, TX and they very rarely if ever play his music. They have a playlist with twenty songs (GaGa, Perry, Bieber) and that shit is played into the ground,

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I think Aftermath would be another Whataya Want From Me,and a huge hit. It's so moving. And the previous posters have it right - let's name homophobia when we see it.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

A person can call homophobia by name all they want but if they are unwilling to take a stand against it, it means nothing.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Wow, we must really live in the dark ages. There is nothing about 'Fever' that should even be remotely objectionable especially considering what else is out there. What a hypocritical society we are. Beware of those who are holier than thou - their closets are bursting with skeletons.............!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I couldn't agree with you more!!!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I love all of the songs on Adam's CD, including the UK version, which has 4 extra tracks. Anything they want to release off of that is fine with me.

  • RoRo 1 year ago

How would anyone know without releasing the song? Isn't it rather assumptive that "Fever" would be condemned by the morality police? How are the lyrics possibly worse than Rihanna's "Rude Boy", "Louie-Louie" or one Lady GaGa song? I only see speculation from fans about the wording in "Fever". Never say never, I say!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

For pete's sakes, let's get our heads out of the water, US of A. It's 2010! Instead of being afraid that no one will listen to your station, think of how many new listeners you'll gain. Be brave and venture out and be the first for all others to follow. The more we accept the differences, we'll less likely to produce likes of the douches from Daily10. Funny, I think homosexuality is illegal in Singapore.

  • Ovationimpact 1 year ago

Matt, is there a list of radio stations that you have seen publicly stating they wouldn’t play the single Fever if released? In addition, radio stations that will not play any of Adam’s currently released music most likely wouldn’t play any new song being released by Adam. Therefore wouldn’t the radio stations currently playing Adam’s music play Fever if released? So where is the substance of the argument that the single Fever wouldn’t be played by the radio stations currently playing Adam’s music?
Okay, now to the fact of the stated point, how is this radio-no-play of Fever position known to be true? Is this possible play ban thinking based a hand full of radio stations or do you think it is the position of the Radio Industry at large? Maybe there is a secret ban-the-music-play-list we the public doesn’t know exist. I just wonder if this no-play chant has become a repeated talking point or an urban myth or a media self-fulfilling prophecy since the single hasn't even been released in the USA to be given such a strongly stated notoriety. There are so many sexually suggestive songs receiving current radio play by female pop stars that are way beyond the one word considered to the pronoun hullabaloo. The logic of the argument that radio stations now playing Adam’s music wouldn’t spin the single release of the song Fever seems questionable.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

You make a good point, but it appears that DJ's have been reluctant overall to play any of his music. His voice is obviously superior to, I would say, any other performer today, but stations have to be pushed and prodded to play Lambert's album. Cumulus is a case in point. (It is possible, of course, that some of this may be reverberations from the AMA craziness, but even that, in the context of what preceded his performance that night, would not have ensued except that it was male kissing male, rather than female.) It will just take time and Lambert is the cutting edge because of his incredible talent, beauty, and charisma - they would like to ignore him but they can't.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Release it and see what happens. Why not? Maybe we'll be the shocked ones. Shocked that it ended up not being a big deal. Wouldn't that be nice.

  • queenrosered 1 year ago

As much as I adore every song on FYE...Sleepwalker is my personal fav to be a hit...it is a rock anthem. Fever is a cool song also but the truth of the matter is that releasing that as a single would simply be tilting at windmills. Radio in the USA will NOT play it..period.Is that fair?? No. It isn't...but it IS a fact, sad, cold and factual.Sleepwalker or Sure Fire Winners would stand a much better chance of being played and making it on the charts.Like it or not...those are the facts. Adam is making inroads and busting through long-held prejudices and stereotypes but...Rome was not built in one day.We have to be realistic, just as Adam is. He knows the score. We can piss and moan all we want but in the end...it will take more time for any kind of mainstream radio on the USA to accept "there HE goes, my baby"....from a male singer. One day...just not yet. Plus...what's wrong with Sleepwalker? I love it!! <333

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

You're absolutely right. Sure Fire Winners or Sleepwalker would be safer to be released in the U.S.
Fever would give the narrow-minded homophobics more ammunition.
Now that Adam is becoming a star internationally I don't think it's a good time to release Fever. Let's keep the momentum going for him.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Apparently YOU care or you wouldn't be reading an article and posting a response.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Why are you wasting your time reading Adam articles if you don't like him...must have a very boring life!!!!!!!!

I would love the acoustic version of "Aftermath" released . That is just so beautiful. I too wonder how "Fever" is doing in New Zealand and Australia. Did they release "Fever" in Germany or any other countries?

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

to the igonarant homo who just said for adam to stay in sinapore, let a life and get off Matt's web-site!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

It's gotta be sleepwalker or fever, as much as I'd ok e to see music again and aftermath. Those songs are amazing, but then again they all are. Ill be fine with any of those songs making it. I'm praying it's music again, but I'm putting my money on sleepwalker.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

    sleepwalker for sure!!!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I woul love Fever to be played on radio but lets face it, America is backword and old fasion country that is homophobic in a worst way.Radio station will play Rihanna's Rude Boy,Enrique's Baby I like it and many more with rape and murder talk but are too homophobe to play fever. Sleep walker is my 2nd fev. song, it will make a great single in our homophobe USA.
