If you are a fan of Adam Lambert's "If I Had You," then some good news is on the way. Not only is the new song starting its tour across radio stations nationwide, but people online are generating so much excitement that the song managed to be one of the ten most popular topics of discussion in the world on Friday afternoon.
For evidence of this, all you have to do is log onto Twitter, where #ifihadyou is a trending topic. When you consider that the song does not even have an accompanying music video yet, this is even better news. (The music video will reportedly be shot sometime over the next few weeks, and will released to the public shortly after that.)
So does this guarantee that the song will be a hit? Not necessarily, but it does show that Adam's fans will do everything in their power to keep the song promoted -- if that means radio requests or digital sales, then you have to believe that they will be ready and willing to oblige.

Adam is so popular online because he is a true talent and because he is actually interesting. So many 'artists' today are manufactured pop princesses and princes with little talent and even less personality. They haven't lived a life or done anything remotely interesting, so they have nothing to say (or do) other than what their publicist/daddy/mommy tells them. Adam intrigues me because he's multidimensional, thoughtful and articulate --- he can go from sweet to fierce to dork to tough all within one day and one performance and sometimes within one interview. Add to that a talent whose worked on honing and an artistic vision that keeps evolving -- he's just fascinating.
"If I Had You" is about as radio-friendly song as you'll ever get. It building to a strong chorus, has a great message everyone can relate to and is hook-laden.
I hope he uses Lady Gaga's video producers to create the video for this and comes up with something cool. So far all of Adam's videos have been VERY literal. Its time for an art piece (like Gaga's Bad Romance).
Ooh! And UPDATE on IIHY video. I huuuurd that he's planning to make it sort of a party in the dark woods type of gathering with people having a good time and Northern Lights type of scenario in the sky. Sounds cool already!
I think one of the reasons Adam doesn't sell more records is that his fan base does tend to be more edgy and tech-savvy. This means they also know how to get music without buying it. I'm sure Adam's music is on about 3 times as many iPods right now as was actually paid for by anyone.
Bill Mitchell: I won't mind it if the "IF I HAD YOU" video is literal. This is a rallying song with a strong message (people of all walks of life, color, background, etc.) having a great time together. I have bought 5 different versions of his album and countless singles as have all of his fans. Adam's fans ADORE him and would NEVER steal his music!!! If anyone is pirating Adam's music then they are not an Adam fan. What makes you think his album isn't selling well? It's certified Platinum in Canada and Gold in multiple other countries (including the US) with only 2 singles released. I have an mp3 of 'Can't Let You Go' that a Finnish fan 'shared' with Adam's US fans b/c we can't buy it here yet but it's on the UK release of his album which I have on pre-order as do MANY other US fans. In just six months Adam has sold 700.000 records and 2.2 million singles in the U.S. and his worldwide sales should be big too so it's not just an on-line phenomenon. "If I Had You" should be easier for Adam's fans to promote because the DJ's are getting over being reluctant to play Adam's music as they were with "For Your Entertainment" and in the beginning with "WWFM".

I think he was the first contestant on idol who was not a cookie cut out, He stood out and was proud of who he is. He had a way of making evryne tune in each week to see what he would sing, and how he would change it. He puts a lot into his performances with any concerts he does! He, like Lady GaGa, walk to a different beat, make no excuses for it, and allows Fans to feel okay in their own Skin and be different!
