'American Idol:' Adam Lambert, Kris Allen find more airplay

Adam Lambert is getting nearly 4000 spins a week.

Fresh off the Grammy Awards Sunday night (where he served as a fashion correspondent for Entertainment Tonight), Adam Lambert has a new reason to celebrate. His second single off of "For Your Entertainment," "Whataya Want From Me," saw a pretty substantial gain on the Mediabase airplay chart. Adam's single received 3,646 spins in the past week alone, an increase of over 700 from the week before.

So what could be the reason for the sudden rise? It likely has to do with a number of factors, including radio requests, positive word of mouth, and extra publicity generated by the singer's recent appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Considering that Adam will likely appear on several episodes of "ET" over the next couple of days, his single will likely receive even more publicity.

However, Adam wasn't the only one getting some more airtime on the radio. "American Idol" winner Kris Allen is still getting significant play for "Live Like We're Dying," as the single rose 700 spins to bring it up to over 7,400. In terms of "Idol" alum, Allen only trails Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone" in terms of total airplay.

I request Whataya Want From Me almost daily (only once a day). I requested For Your Entertainment and Time For Miracles before that, but my local station has never played a single Adam Lambert spin. I go through their playlist regularly.

I am not sure why they will not play Whataya Want From Me...?

I think you have a typo.

"Adam's single received 3,646 spins in the past week alone, an increase of over 7,000 from the week before."

It was an increase of around 700 spins, not 7,000.

I've requested WWFM on a daily basis (very frequently) for the past 2 months on NY City's top radio station and they play it all the time. NYC Loves ADAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! and so do I :)

  • number8gurl 2 years ago

I request WWFM daily (just once) to my local radio station. I request via tweet to some major market stations online. WWFM started spinning regularly on my local Top 40 station about a month ago. LLWD started spinning on the same station about 2 weeks ago. Adam gets played about twice as many times as Kris but both are getting a good amount of spins on my local station. In addition to appearing on Oprah, Adam was also on Ellen recently for her Birthday show (his 2nd appearance on her show). He also performed WWFM on The Early Show, Conan, Leno, Letterman, The View and the SYTYCD finale. Adam performed WWFM the first time he was on Ellen but the 2nd time he performed 'Strut' which some think may be the next single *hopes*. Oprah and Ellen are very smitten with Adam. He's been voted best dressed male from his appearance at the Grammy's last night. He was a fashion correspondent for ET on the red carpet. His piece will air on ET tonight.

I too have requested WWFM from local stations and have yet to hear them play any Adam Lambert songs...so disappointing! C'mon all you stations, get moving. We really want to hear Adam!

Excuse me! And when you read my "excuse me", I want you to read it like "EXCUSE ME!" Just when do they play Adam Lambert's music on the radio in Michigan? When, because I want to know because I never hear him, NEVER! My kids never hear him either, Never! Why is that? I remember asking this question a while ago, but my comment was deleted. I think there is some kind of blacklisting going on. If someone wants to play reporter maybe they could find out about this. Or if someone just wants to take the easy way out they can just delete comments. I'll check back later to see if my comment is still here.

They were complaining about being spammed so everyone was scared to request Adam! Dont understand the spam thing cuz other artists fans spam a lot more! Also I have had complaints of DJs refusing to play Adam! Sad, isnt it? Since when is it illegal to want to hear your favorite music! *sigh*

  • Amanda 2 years ago

Yep, I live in Los Angeles and never, ever hear any of Adam's songs played on the radio. It sucks!!! They keep playing the same crappy music, over and over again. Even Ryan Seacrest never plays his songs on the air and he's on over 3 hours a day. He should be more loyal than that to an Idol contestant.

  • Lori 2 years ago

I have made this comment before too. I live in the Seattle area and have NEVER heard Adam sing on the radio. He obviously has been blacklisted. Seems like there needs to be some investigative reporting here. Ryan Seacrest...what is your problem? Whataya Want From Me is #1 on Vhl...what is going on?

Love the song and Love Adam!

  • Anneika 2 years ago

I'm from outside the US. I reckon from the comments that perhaps AI producers are pushing Kris' LLWD's airplay to gain more sales and putting Adam's single at the back burner. So that it would legitimize the Kris' win. It's because Adam's music will do very well anyway, there's no way it cannot succeed. It's so obvious all the PUSH for Kris and the HOLD on Adam's inevitable success.

I live in San Francisco and is yet to hear a single radio station to play an Adam Lambert song... good thing I have his CD and an Iphone, I can bring him everywhere with me. Too bad for those who doesn't know Adam, they wouldn't if they don't hear his amazing voice.

  • Wicked Glitter 2 years ago

I see my comment is still posted. What a surprise. That bullshit about the DJ's refusing to play Adam's music because of his fans requesting it too much, is just that, BULLSHIT! Thats like coke saying 'oh by the way we are not going to stock our pop in your store anymore because too many of your customers are requesting it'! Amyome who has experienced any kind of discrimination could see through that .

  • Wicked Glitter 2 years ago

I meant to say anyone who has experienced discrimination, could see through that. The other thing that really upset me was that Adam's red carpet segment for Entertainment Tonight was not on the night of the 'Grammys' 'Entertainment Tonight' was supposed to have a pre-Grammy show with Adam on the red carpet. Instead there was a stupid show on about weddings. The ABC affiliate in the Detroit area did not show Adam's special. Why? Why was Adam 's segment on 'Jay Leno' blocked also? I had every channel all night except when Adam was on. I had only a green screen, and no sound. All of the other stations were visable! At precisely eleven p.m. the news came on. Adam was blacklisted that night. Plus comcasts email was down, and I could only get a busy signal when I tried to complain. Lets see If this comment stays up. I will check back because I want to know if other people have experienced this.

How coincendental can it be that a fairly large number of people post that they haven't heard Adam played at all or very little? I'm in the group that has never once heard him on any local station or large metro stations here in Texas and I listen on a daily basis. I find it had to believe that people would rather listen to and promote mediocrity than superior artistry. It makes no sense.

  • Digita 2 years ago

Adam Lambert put out an album? I'm surprised to hear that. I thought he was just Perez Hilton except with worse hair.

"That bullshit about the DJ's refusing to play Adam's music because of his fans requesting it too much, is just that, BULLSHIT!"

The Claymates said the EXACT same thing! Didn't Adam say right after Idol that Clay could ride his coattails? Well, now the opposite appears to be true.

here in bradenton florida adam lambert songs are everywhere in the rideo 93.3 and XM

  • Sarah 2 years ago

Someone mentioned that Ryan Seacrest doesn't play Adam's music. This is because Ryan Seacrest has little to nothing to do with the music that is actually played on his station in LA or any of the other stations he is syndicated on. The playlist is determined by a programming director who uses research to decide what goes on the air.

More importantly, Seacrest works for Clear Channel Radio, the largest owner of radio stations in the U.S. A little history lesson: Clear Channel is notoriously conservative. They were the ones who dropped Howard Stern and cut Dixie Chicks programming after Natalie Maines' anti-Bush commentary. Given the large number of stations Clear Channel owns, I'm sure the Adam Lambert blacklist is not unintentional. A company threatened by a left-wing political commentary would most definitely be threatened by a creative, outrageous, and yes, gay performer.

I read the moderator for Adams RCA site told the ole hags to STOP calling and writing the radio stations, but they never did, No one tells these hags anything. Keep calling and writing since your to blame for his failures.

  • Kris Allen tops 2 years ago

Of the tracks in Nielsen SoundScan's Top Digital Tracks chart this week, Kris Allen had the best sales for any Idol (slightly more than 57,000 for Live Like We're Dying). Only Carrie Underwood saw an increase (46 percent) in week-over-week sales, with her latest single, Temporary Home. And Fantasia's new single, Even Angels, sold nearly 10,000 downloads, enough to put her on this week's chart.

  • Sparkle Cows Walk 2 years ago

Sparkle Cows Walked out before Kris Allens set and to be honest, the crowd was more than pleased. You actually made more room for the rest of us to enjoy Kris Allen. I saw you Cows Tweeted that you planned your exit and thank God you did. You missed the finale act of Kris Allison and Adam. It was really good to get a better view since you ole and I mean Old Fat hags left. You really show no class and its no wonder why Adam dislikes you enormously. Hey did you call any more radio stations lately??lol
