'American Idol:' Adam Lambert helps Fox to ratings win

Adam Lambert as an "American Idol" mentor didn't just pay off for the contestants -- it also helped to give Fox a significant ratings victory Tuesday night. According to the latest numbers, "Idol" averaged close to 21 million viewers for its performance show, which is a slight increase on the week before. Was it the presence of a certain reigning runner-up that helped bump up the numbers? Anything is possible.

The domination that is "Idol" also certainly helped give "Glee" its biggest numbers of the season thus far. The musical comedy averaged around 13 million viewers for its mid-season premiere, putting it above its season average by a few million eyeballs.

Do you think that Adam Lambert played a part in bumping up the "Idol" ratings, and are you surprised that "Glee" improved so much from last fall? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below and stay tuned for more "American Idol" news. (Click here to check out recent "Idol" photos.)

I think if there is an increase, yes, Adam helped. And really, I would think ratings would be lower than last week if he were not on because I am hearing that people were getting bored with the contestants, for the most part.

Hopefully Adam sparked a little fire under their feet going forward and the AI contestants will start to step it up. Adam was a fantastic mentor and can't wait to see him tonight:-)Wish he would also get to sing an Elvis song or medley!

Definitely think Adam was a major part of the ratings. Those that love him wanted to see him and those that hate him wanted to see him to try and tear him down. But he did an awesome job that is pretty unanimous in reading the news reports.

The fact that every single person I talked to all week said they were only tuning in to see Adam, um.....ya....I would say Adam had everything to do with it! Cant wait to watch him perform tonight!

Just wonder how the ratings will be tonight since he'll be performing himself. Our family loves him so much!

Wonderful night! Tonight will be better, and the numbers too, thanks Adam!!!!

Without a doubt in my mind the ratings increased because of Adam!
They will, of course, be up again tonight since Adam is performing. They are sorely missing his spark and charisma every week, I know I am. I just hope that the accurat and helpful advice he gave the AI9ers will carry through and up the quality of their performances for the rest of the season.

Most definitely Adam helped out last night's ratings. A lot of people I know have stopped watching the show. I've heard from them now and they tuned in last night and were very pleased by what they saw. Adam gave great advice and was very kind in how he gave it and the kids that listened did so much better than previous weeks. A lot of articles are coming out right now saying that Adam should take Simon's place as a judge he was so good. Personally, I want to see this man perform, he is so great and I will definitely be watching tonight. Whether you love him or hate him, Adam is fascinating to watch and his voice is out-of-this-world great.
