Adam Lambert has faced plenty of backlash thanks to some of his controversial quotes and performances -- but is he totally to blame for so much negative criticism? According to a new interview the "American Idol" runner-up gave to British publication The News of the World (yes, the same people who initially claimed that Brad and Angelina broke up), Adam believes that some parents shelter their children: "There are so many parents who are too conservative in America."
While many people may initially think that Adam is giving this quote in the context of his American Music Awards performance, he is actually talking about his decision to use recreational drugs in the past:
"There are certain drugs out there that are really fun and recreational and can mean a good time...I'm not an advocate for drugs but it is all rock and roll and we are all adults."
Of course, the irony is that these quotes will likely lead some parents to turn their noses up at Adam Lambert, believing that he is no longer a suitable role model to their children. Then again (as Adam has said in the past), it is not his responsibility to "be a babysitter" for a younger audience -- he is trying to make a career instead as a performer. People have to make their own choices about his content.
Do you think Adam Lambert is right in saying that American parents are too conservative, or should he have stayed away from talking about recreational drugs? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more "American Idol" news.

I think if Adam feels comfortable talking about recreational drugs more power to him. There's not many people who would speak up about something like that. He's right....he's not a babysitter and he also said he's not promoting drugs. Good for him for being honest! I think it's endearing and makes us love him more for his honesty. By opening up about things like that we know we can trust him. Thank you Adam for all your honesty!
Funny...because I wonder how many people REALLY know what their kids are doing? If you believe that because they are so-called "good-kids" that they don't experiment in risky behavior, then I think you need to really spend some time at college campuses or at clubs or parties or at their friends house. You probably be horrified.
I get where adam is coming from and share his attitude about drugs and conservative parents, etc. But unfortunately i have lived long enough to see that many people can't make wise choices and control their behaviour and need someone, ie big brother or the bible, to tell them what to do. If society was not directly impacted by poor choices others make i would say live and let live. Until humans evolve to the plain that adam, for one, inhabits i guess we are going to need restrictions and direction from others "who know what is best for us."
The hypocrisy that surrounds parental concerns over the influence of entertainers, even specific performances on their children's attitudes toward sex, sexuality, drugs, social and personal relationships is confusing. I wrote about this after Adam's AMA performance "As Madonna Generation Calls for Boycott". The kids have their priorities straight, as Adam noted when he visited a middle school to deliver books to jam with a classroom of music students. They talked about music, not controversies. It's up to parents to instill values and guide their children through the obstacle course that is adolescence. Young people are too perceptive to be fooled about the place drugs occupy in society.
For some, the greatest threat comes from the isolation, bullying and ostracization by their peers over perceived "weirdness". From my own experience with an adolescent and Adam's own story, I learned that the arts are a refuge and sometimes a life saver. That's a message to take home.
I'm a 72 year old grandma, and I love Adam Lambert. His controversial performce was wrong, but I forgive and forget. T.V. was not the place to act like that. Still love his music and will watch his on the Tonight show. Voted for him over 100 times on American Idol
Yes, I agree that American parents are too conservative and also in denial about what their kids get into. It seems that the more a kid is sheltered from the realities of life the more trouble they find to get into. It is always "the preacher's kids" who are the ringleaders for shoplifting, vandalism, experimenting with drugs, racing their cars, and not being where they tell their parents they are going! The kids who had realistic, honest parents are the ones who turn out OK as adults.
Where is the proof that Adam said any of that stuff? Just because somebody writes something does not make it true. Everytime Adam actually does say something he is misquoted and taken out of context. I don't believe anything, even it if it is part of an interview on video because a lot of what he says on some of those are taken out of context too. All I want to do is see and hear him sing. I am sick of all of the ignorant nasty gossip!
