Adam Lambert's "For Your Entertainment" has been officially out now for over six months, but the album is still finding ways to get into the hands of fans. According to the newest numbers courtesy of Billboard and USA Today, the "American Idol" runner-up's debut sold 8,000 copies last week to put it at about 623,000 total.
Will Adam ever get Certified Platinum here in the States? As of right now that looks like a tall order, but one of the things he has going for him is the potential success of "If I Had You." If he managed to get people talking about the new song thanks to the radio and an upcoming music video, we could see album sales start to increase again. (Adam's sales were down 23% this week.)
As for all "Idol" alum, Carrie Underwood had the best-selling album of the week, as "Play On" pushed out 15,000 more copies, putting it over the 1.5 million mark.

Adam Lambert's album came out November 23, 2009, which makes it 5 months and 1 week not well over 6 months on the market. It took Daughtry 7 months to reach the 1 million mark for his last album. He has had some hurdles, like slow radio play at first to overcome, but he is getting there. He's a very talented performer. His tour promises to be very entertaining so as he becomes better known to all I am sure we'll see platinum.
Carrie's 3rd CD came out a couple of weeks earlier and has sold almost 1 million more copies. That says it all. Many wanted Adam to be the new poster child for AI but it didn't happen. I would also say that his numbers aren't horrible. He is in the pop genre which tends to sell much stronger than country and his numbers should be higher considering the hype/promotion he had but they aren't horrible.
The idea that FYE won't go platinum is just silly. "If I Had You" will drive sales but Adam is also doing a HUGE concert tour this summer. Yep, FYE easily platinum by September.
I don't know how it'll be in the US since I get always too homophobic vibes from there. what I know is that he certainly deserves more. he is really popular here in europe and WWFM was instantly a hit on the radios, constantly playing everywhere. the album is released this week here and I'm sure it'll hit the highest rates. Adam is certainly talented and unique and he deserves the best.
Comparing Adam to Carrie is just silly. Country fans tend to be more religious than pop fans - that means they are much less likely to, ahem, "borrow" music than pay for it.
I read a music critic's article that said the really successful artists have broken through the American Idol bubble- Kelly,Carrie,Daughtry,Adam. And went on to mention the success of Jennifer Hudson-(oscar for Dream Girls )
Adam is the first of all season contestants including winners who will headline his own concert tour his first season out and that is definitely beyond the AI bubble. Will platinum.Yes.
Carrie is an establised star of four years in media and her albums get released worldwide due to that. Adam is still a new artist, and his album got released only in USA in Nov. released in Canada a bit over a month ago and will be released in the UK this month-then some other countries. That, right there, is why we shouldn't compare these two fine singers, different styles aside, there are many factors to consider. Good luck to both.
You just cant ever give Adam credit without comparing him to someone else can you? Wow! Carrie has been in th industry for over 4 years and is Country, a big selling gendre of the US! What does one have to do with the other? Adam is doing fantastic! His music is phenominal and will continue to soar as more people hear about him! Great music, amazing live performer! That is rare nowadays!
Since Adam has versions of his CD in Japan & England with bonus songs,I don't think he will hit a million till he tours the U S this summer. I did not buy his cd yet so I am ordering the England release because of- Can't Let You Go .
You could compare Adam to David Cook, whose debut album went platinum in 3 months. But I'm not worried about Adam's career. He's famous around the world already - just for being Adam.
IT will take a while here in u.s. but Adam will do it,he is now marching to 700,000....all he needs is time....if you add oversea sales i am sure his total world wide sales,including here are between 900,000 and 1,000,000 total sales!!!!!

I live in London. I bought FYE last November and then bought the UK version. It was worth it! Can't Let You Go is just the best song - I can't stop listening to it. Phenomenal vocal - it just goes where you need it to go to rouse emotions you didn't even know you had. If that was a single it would rule the world for ever on the vocals but I really hope it means his album will sell, sell, sell, he so deserves it. Number one fan for ever.
Give him time, I'd say he will be platinum by the time his album hits it's one year anniversary in November. It's hard to sell mass amounts of albums in the US nowadays. It's not like 10 years ago when albums shipped and sold a million in a week. Too many people steal music, if pirating were not an issue, then he would be platinum already. Not to mention that the US economy is in shambles. Bottom line is, he is the most successful contestant from season 9, and he's so far ahead of the technical "winner" that I'm not worried about it. Tween girls sure can power text to get a mediocre pretty boy a useless title, but they aren't shelling out the bucks to buy the Kris Allen album.

Adam and Carrie are totally different style artists, but both have moved beyond needing the American Idol label. In fact, what AI is putting out now, it is an insult.

I have purchased three different versions of ADAM's FYE album ... original (pre-ordered & released 11/09) ... Special Edition (IMPORT) 18 track CD & Bonus DVD ... am now awaiting FYE UK version also w/18 track CD which includes the PHENOMENAL song "CAN'T LET YOU GO"! ADAM's VOICE is OUT OF THIS WORLD on that one track alone plus 'Rabbit Hole' .. 'Master Plan' & 'Voodoo' ALL equally GREAT tracks & is also available on Amazon. Once this FYE version catches on & 'If I Had You' is released I'm sure it will definitely go PLATINUM!!
I think For Your Entertainment would be platinum now if Adam got the air time he deserves. Local stations in my area have been extremely slow about playing WWFM. I've heard it played a total of 4 times locally since Dec. 09. Yet the same stations push new music from other artists which have barely charted. Hard to believe that in 2010 A.D. in the U.S.A. that who you are as an individual can still be an issue with regards to your music.

You stating his sales are "down 23%" fails to mention he's coming off American Idol bump where he sold 80,000 units WWFM. duh. Only someone clueless would call platinum "a tall order". It's a sure thing. He hasn't even started touring yet, REMEMBER? LMAO that you chose to compare him to Carrie but not Kris Allen, THE IDOL, who's sold half of what Adam has.

I don't know where you've been hiding or sleeping maybe but Adams C.D. went platinum 2 weeks ago. Why compare him with other idols, especially a country singer, he's in a league of his own. The contest is over, AMA's are over, lets just settle down now and enjoy Adam's journey to super stardom, because that's what he is, a super star.
The diff. with Carrie and Adam is that Country music lovers will buy anything period. Country radio will play anything period. Pop is much more selective and pop radio has become so corporate that the DJ's are not user friendly like they use to be in music's hey-day. The proof is that Taylor Swift can sell those silly bubble gum tween CD's a million times over Adam's highly crafted vocally beautiful FYE CD because country music lovers don't care about artistic ability when it comes to music.
Carrie can sing but every song sounds just like the last one. Taylor can't sing but she fits the country cross-over mold and obviously has big backers. No one like Taylor would have made it into music in the 1970's but Adam would have been a star.
