'American Idol': Adam Lambert breaks attendance record with Quebec show

The Balloon Festival has been going in Quebec for 27 years now, but it took the presence of Adam Lambert in order to shatter records for attendance. French newspaper Journal de Montreal is reporting that roughly 75,000 people were present to watch the "American Idol" singer perform, which is larger than any crowd that has ever been there in one time.

Even more impressive is that Adam managed to have a larger audience that the other performers in the lineup, which include Simple Plan, Akon, and the legendary Backstreet Boys. Considering that most of Adam's Glam Nation shows are performed in indoor venues around the country, it's unlike that he will see the same sort of crowd at any point in the near future.

As of right now, Lambert is performing on the east coast. He will soon head to the midwest, and will finish the North American leg of Glam Nation in Washington.

Were you one of the 75,000 in attendance?

I wasnt there but was there by >koff< other means.....Adam is beyond EPIC...get used to it everyone...its Adams world...we are just lucky enough to live in it....long live the KING!!!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I can completely believe it...His Seattle shows sold out in under a minute! Can't wait for his followup tour...but so happy to see him in the more intimate small venues. As was said in Vancouver when he was introduced..."remember tonight in this intimate setting, because in a few years this guy will be selling out stadiums!" I heard that one of the venues booked on the Asian leg of the tour holds up to 100,000 people. Sales open to 50,000 and once that is reached they add in 10,000 increments up to 100,000. Hope he packs the whole thing!

that's a huge crowd. i hope it can be confirmed.

i do love adam lambert. i just don't want exaggerated figures. i'll flail in a major way if this one is confirmed.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Believe me, that figure is correct. Took us a very long time to get to the site and to leave it after the show. Adam was on fire that night! Never seen him having so much fun while performing. Montreal, Quebec and Canada have been strong supporters of Adam's music. I'm sure that doubters about these figures could ask Adam himself about that show and the incredible vibe that the large crowd was sending back to the stage. Sure that he will confirm as would the organizers of this great and awesome show!

major flail here, then!!!! i've posted the link at my fave forum :D

I am not surprised at all. Adam Lambert is one of a kind artist with unmatched vocals and stage presence. He is loved by fans all over the world and this is just the begining. He is worlwide star and canadians have great taste in music and people, they are unbiased unlike Americans. THANK YOUCANADA FOR LOVING ADAM LAMBERT.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Montreal loves new talented artists and has proven it once again! I was one of those 75,000 fans on site and let me tell you that it was an electrifying night. The weather was absolutely perfect and Adam was AMAZING (sorry, but it has to be in capital letters!). For 10 or 15-day festivals, organizers always wait until the end to compile their numbers and publish them. I am so thrilled right now to have been part of that magical evening with Adam, under the stars in St. Jean (Montreal).

I love to hear stories like this about Adam. Wish I could have been in that crowd. Canada loves Adam.

  • Hear This! 1 year ago

This does not surprise me or any of his devote fans. We knew he was a superstar the moment he stepped on that Idol Stage. Congrats Adam. Also sure Australia will give him a very warm welcome. Why the U.S. is lagging behind is a mystery.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Adam is selling out venues and still there are some that say it is only because they are small. is 75,000 enough for them now?

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I was there and I am not at all surprised by his popularity. I am originally from Quebec and was really proud and excited to see Adam perform there. He put on a fantastic show like usual, spoke a few words of French and impressed Mitsou who introduced him in a very flattering way. I know that he could fill a huge stadium but the smaller venues are more intimate.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I went to 2 sold out nights in Costa Mesa of 8,500 each and I thought that was his biggest venue so far, but WOW 75,000!!! I am not surprised at all if this is correct!! Adam Lambert is very captivating. I was mesmerized by him, especially the 2nd night in Costa Mesa!!! There is nobody in music today that has this kind of extraordinary talent IMO!!! Like Simon Cowell said in an interview, " I believe Adam will be a world wide star".

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

To be more precise, merely 75, 000 peoples attended the Balloon Festival that day, breaking the all-time record attendance for the event. An estimated 50, 000 people standing in front of the stage.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I was there - it was a great show and I wish Adam every success - he has everything it takes to be something amazing. One of the best voices I have ever heard. At a time when very few artists can perform live ....he is a breath of fresh air...

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

since the festival drew 375, 000 people, a record amount, it's not unreasonable to think that canada's biggest star on their charts and mmva award winner could draw 75,000 people to see his sold out tour. a post above says that 75,000 people attended that day and 50,000 of them were at the stage. that's not an unreasonable figure either. one can assume that out of 75,000 a good 25,000 had young kids or don't attend the evening concerts, etc.
regardless, adam lambert is a force to be reckoned with and this is just the beginning. i knew since the 1st song i heard him do that he'd be packing stadiums before long. it should be also noted that he is one of the few concert tours this summer that hasn't had to cut back dates, reduce ticket prices to bring people in, or cancel their tour entirely. instead, adam lambert's glam nation tour is selling out in EVERY city it comes to. so yeah, i totally believe 50,000 people clamored to see him!

  • pr62 1 year ago

said it before and i'll say it again-next tour adam will sell out major arenas. can't wait to see him at madison square garden

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

All I can say is Wow! That is amazing!! 50 - 75k people attended Adam's concert. Artists are canceling concerts left and right or changing venues because of lack of attendance or only half filling a venue. Some of the venues Adam has played at the GA ones have oversold the venue. Three that I know of so could be more!

  • anonymous 1 year ago

Legendary Backstreet Boys is right!;-) Adam will be legendary in his own right! I love what he is bringing to the music scene! It's exciting!

  • Britte 1 year ago

    No gasp of surprise here!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I was there! I thought the attendance should be 100k, but 75k is not bad at all. What a great show! Adam was fantastic and the audience was amazing. The only problem is the fans shouted so loud that my ears got hurt.

  • LambertsLabelle 1 year ago

I wasnt...:( It would have been 75 k and one then..
I m soooooooo proud of him!!!!

    "Legendary Backstreet Boys"--True that! =]
Good for Adam. Keep up the good work, dude.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I was number 75,001 - there in heart and soul as I always am for anywhere Adam is singing. Wow, the numbers are impressive but I would love him and follow him if there were only 10 of us. He is just one of those sweet things in life that come along and make every day a little more bearable. I, for one, don't ever plan to give that up. Rock on, Superman!!

  • fiji 1 year ago

I was there !! And I'm so freakin proud of Adam !! He deserves all the success he's getting !!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Adam is already a superstar here in Canada. His cd went platinum. Today, still, his video is #1 at mmtop10.ca. I'm so happy we don't judge people here by race, religion, sexuality. Adam is just beautiful with a golden voice and St. Jean, Quebec set him on fire! He was so happy. That was the sexiest performance of Fever I have ever seen and 20th Century Boy was amazing (lots of sexy moves by Adam) (wearing no underwear, if you know what I mean).
I hope he has the stamina to complete the many concerts yet to go in your country. I think we would all like to see him set the international venues on fire as well!

  • Glamity58 1 year ago

Oh, Canada! Don't we love you. I wish I lived there. You are so open and accepting. Wish I could experience this show. I saw him in concert in the states and want to see his show again in this exciting venue. Thanks for being such great fans. Off now to vote on mmtop10.

I was there and it was on an airport field and was crowded probably to capacity. The traffic to get into the site was back-up for miles up-to the Montréal Champlain bridge and some people were still getting in when Adam started. All ages and nationalities were there including families with kids. Adam even asked the crowd to sing along for If I Had You and it was incredible to see how many people knew the words of the song even if the crowd was comprised of a majority of French speaking people. Adam was on fire and this concert was a huge success.

Crossed the border of Vermont to see Adam as an awesome birthday present at the festival in St Jean (as he graciously acknowledged instead of Montreal). We were in the front row of the Premier seating overlooking this gigantic crowd of excited fans unbelievably packed in all around us! Yes, it was so beautiful that evening and Adam's voice was carrying across the clear air with the ability to still send shivers up my spine on some of my favorite songs. And his kiss of bassist Tommy brought cheers from the crowd. Oh, Canada! ... always loved your open minds!
