"American Idol" 2013 continued March 20 as the top nine finalists sang tunes made famous by the legendary Beatles. Kree Harrison, who earned a spot in the top three following the March 13 popular vote, opened the two-hour episode with an offering that prompted one judge to confirm her readiness for stardom and another to proclaim her a complete musical package.
During her pre-performance segment, Harrison expressed the importance of family in the wake of her parents' untimely deaths. Since her dad was a huge Beatles fan, she was "ecstatic" over the idea of performing one of their songs for the very first time. Mentor Jimmy Iovine was confident that she could enjoy "a big, big night" thanks to her song selection, the well-recognized "With a Little Help From My Friends," which he opined was made for her voice.
Harrison looked sleek in black as she hit the "Idol" stage to sing. Her performance was strong, and her collection of back-up singers didn't outshine her at all. All four judges were impressed. Keith Urban called her "all the cool things about country" and predicted that America would vote to keep her around for another week. Nicki Minaj called her "the whole entire package" while Randy Jackson thought she'd blown "the vocals out of the water." Mariah Carey teased her for a moment, beginning with "I didn't think it was good," but followed up with "I thought it was fan-freakin-tastic."
At least one celebrity viewer shared the judges' sentiments, as Jackee Harry tweeted "...GREAT Vocal From Kree! #Idol."
