The top 9 of "American Idol" season 12 took on classic hits by the Beatles during the March 20, 2013 live performance show. The girls outshone the guys this week so they are all included in the top 9 standouts. "American Idol" also announced the results from last weeks sing-off between Charlie Askew and Aubrey Cleland and as always you will find my "Idol" elimination prediction at the bottom of the page.
First let's get to the "American Idol" standouts for Beatles night.
Kree Harrison chose to sing, "With a Little Help from My Friends" and despite being sick she delivered a solid performance. Although considered a country artist, Harrison has proven that she can take any song, from any genre and effortlessly make it her own. "American Idol" judge, Nicki Minaj summed it up nicely when she said, "I adore that you put your own Kree-dom on it. You have become a super star before our eyes."
Janelle Arthur gave her rendition of, "I Will" and this little country girl did. I'm not familiar with this particular Beatles song but I found Janelle's version absolutely beautiful. All four "American Idol" judges were in agreement that Janelle aced it. Randy Jackson was most impressed stating, "This was one of the best performances of the evening. It was amazing."
Candice Glover sang "Come Together" and I must confess this is one of my all time favorite Beatles hits, so although I'm a huge Glover fan, I was prepared to criticize. However, when Glover had finished singing all I could think was why hasn't this girl already been discovered? "American Idol" is just a stepping stone for Glover. She's on her way, regardless of the outcome.
Angie Miller is a natural talent. She can sing anything and make it her own. That includes tonight's "Idol" performance of "Yesterday" which was as always, amazing. It's no wonder that Angie was voted one of American Idol's top 3 performers last week.
Amber Holcomb has made an amazing transformation from shy little country girl into confident super star in the blink of an eye. Tonight Amber performed "She's Leaving Home" with the ease and elegance of a seasoned pro despite having confessed that she was unfamiliar with the song. Her "American Idol" performance was fantastic.
"American Idol" announced the winner of last weeks sing-off between Charlie Askew and Aubrey Cleland during tonight's performance show. The winner was chosen by viewer votes and was awarded a wildcard spot in this summer's tour. The winner of AT&T's "Idol" Tour fan save was Aubrey Cleland. We say a fond farewell to the lovable, Charlie Askew.
The girls once again brought down the house with powerful performances although a couple of the guys did a great job as well. However, I feel that another male will be eliminated from "American Idol" this week.
My prediction is Lazaro Arbos.
