American Idol's top 10 of season 12 took the stage on March 13, 2013 singing their choice of any song ever performed by a past "American Idol" winner. The song choices were interesting and in a few cases wrong, but three young artists got it right and stood out from the pack. These are my top three performance picks of the evening and if you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find my elimination prediction.
Candice Glover chose to sing "I Who Have Nothing" which was performed on "American Idol" by season 6 winner Jordin Sparks. This was the perfect song choice for Glover showcasing her amazing vocals. As Keith Urban stated, "This song had it all," and it did. There were runs and high notes delivered with the ease of a seasoned professional. When Glover had finished singing "Idol" judges Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson jumped to their feet in a standing ovation. Mariah Carey remained seated but explained later that her dress was too tight, otherwise she would have stood as well.
Angie Miller sang "I Surrender" as was previously performed by "American Idol" season one winner, Kelly Clarkson. Miller was excited about her song choice telling "Idol" cameras, "I think I can sing it as well as Kelly did," Did Miller sing it as well as Kelly? I think I'll leave that up to you but I will say Miller's rendition was absolutely amazing and had the "Idol" judges raving about her performance.
Kree Harrison chose to sing "Crying" that was previously performed by "American Idol" winner, Carrie Underwood. Harrison was excited to sing this song so she could put her own Kree twist to it. I don't know about a "Kree twist" but she delivered an outstanding rendition. Her pure, rich tone compliments any song she performs. "Idol" judge Keith Urban told the young crooner, "You could sing the phone book, baby."
While Glover, Miller and Harrison were my top three "American Idol" performance picks this evening, I have to give a shout out to Amber Holcomb who really seemed to have come out of her shell. "Idol" stylists transformed Holcomb into a teen diva, this girl is beautiful and her beauty shone through in her music. Nicki Minaj commented that Amber had an aura about her that reminded the judge of a young Whitney Houston.
