"American Idol" was all about the guys as they took the stage on March 6, 2013 to battle it out for five spots in Idol's top 10 of season 12. The girls had their shot for America's vote last night so tonight it was the boy's time to shine. As always some performances were better than others so here's a rundown of the top five and be sure to check out my predictions at the bottom of the page.
"American Idol" standout performances for March 6, 2013:
Curtis Finch Jr. gave a riveting rendition of R. Kelly's, "I Believe I can Fly" that inspired the "Idol" judges to jump to their feet in a standing ovation. Each time Finch sings he imparts a feeling of peace and good will to the listener. This is a rare talent that most entertainers strive for but never achieve. It comes naturally for Curtis.
Devin Velez performed a Perry Como classic, "It's Impossible" while switching the verses from English to Spanish. Velez gave a beautiful rendition while in English but his true talent emerged when he sang in his native tongue. I don't know if this particular song is out dated by "American Idol" standards but it was definitely stunning.
Burnell Taylor chose to perform a repeat of his original audition number, Fantasia's "I'm Here". I'm not sure if this was a wise choice but wise or not he pulled it off delivering a strong performance that quite possibly put him through to American Idol's top 10.
Paul Jolley barely escaped elimination from "American Idol" last week so he had to step it up a notch. Tonight Jolley sang "Just a Fool" and he aced it delivering an effortless performance with strong vocals and great control.
Lazaro Arbos has been a favorite of many "American Idol" fans since we heard his first audition. Tonight Lazaro sang "Feeling Good" and won our hearts once again. After struggling last week, Arbos came back better and stronger delivering a beautiful performance that earned high praise from the "Idol" judges.
I predict these five standout performers will be voted through to American Idol's top 10. I feel like we will be saying goodbye to Elijah Liu, Cortez Shaw, Charlie Askew, Nick Boddington and Vincent Powell.
The "American Idol" results show will air March 7 at 8/7c on FOX. The top 10 of 2013 will be announced at that time.
